The news emerged from an event in China, so it seems safe to assume Redmond means the northern hemisphere's summer between June and August. Executive veep for Windows Terry Myerson says Windows 10 "will launch in 190 countries and 111 languages". We're in the dark on whether Microsoft measures seasons with equinoxes or solstices as the mid-point, by picking the three warmest and sunniest months and calling them summer or another arbitrary measure. We mention that omission because some European nations consider summer runs for about four months from May to August. At a guess, Microsoft would like a launch no later than early August, the better to target back-to-school PC buyers in the northern hemisphere. 2

You see this alone would put me off properly looking at Windows 10 in 2015. I know why Microsoft do it... if there's anything significantly bad with Windows 10, they can fix it before making Windows Server 2016 RTM. They've done this ever since Windows Server 2003 from memory, which I agree is somewhat annoying.

JRowley Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 We'll be waiting at least until 2016 before doing anything serious with Windows 10 and even then we might wait until 2017 to roll out properly. We in the office might upgrade our machines (certainly I will be!), but that's about it.
localzuk Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 To be honest, the server release is what is interesting me most at the moment! Things like improved clustering and replication, improved Powershell (complete with package management!), rolling upgrades for Hyper-V clusters, hot swap capable virtual network cards and memory, etc... The client is a nice jump forward too though.

It does work well and looks fab for lessons etc. The only problem is your profile can become seriously corrupted if you log onto a Win 10 PC then a Win 7 PC (not so bad with 8). That's why Microsoft invented the: profilename (XP) profilename.v2 (Vista and 7) profilename.v3 (8) profilename.v4 (8.1) And guess what, everybody will need a: profilename.v5 folder. I found when people logged on to Win10 the first time, the user profile service failed to load the profile and gave them a temp one. That's because they don't have a .v5 extension and don't have the permissions in the profile folder to automatically create a new one. Manually create a .v5 or give their account permission to auto-create one. If you use a mandatory profile, just copy your Win8.1 one and rename it as .v5 and it will work. Paul.
