What you need is this:

It is true though - as you get older you put on weight a lot easier. I am the same size as I was 15 years ago (average, since you ask) but in those days I did little exercise and now I walk the dog twice a day, do two very high power exercise classes and run for an hour every week.

The answer to dieting is...don't!! Just eat a bit less (one slice of bread, not two, one roast potato etc) Give up most of your 'empty calories' such as pastry, cake sweets chocolate and alcohol.

And exercise a little bit more - walk up stairs. Go and see people instead of emailing them etc etc

This reminds me of an old Viz ad... "Fret Debt"

Take a high intrest loan and the fret and stress of having to pay it off will have you loosing so much weight in no time at all!!

Well if you know me then you will know I'm a bit of a stick man. No matter what I eat I don't get any fatter. Jealous eh? ;)
No I'm not jellious as that sounds just like me and I can have a 3 course lunch every day of the week including sticky gouey deserts at work and not put an ounce on :D

Thanks Joanne - but actually I am not that old!

As for those of you who are stick men - if you are under 30 (ish) then do not be complacent - it could catch up with you yet.

My partner was always stick thin right up until he was about 31. Suddenly he started putting on weight and now struggles to stay a 36" waist.

SO - it may get you in the end!

I'll put my 10p in.

Missus was getting very down about her weight, as she was reaching her 30th B'Day, so she suggested the SlimFast diet. I replied "No bloody way, you want to diet then do it properly." She then signed up for the Weight Watchers meetings and I promised to do the diet with her. Shes now lost her 1st stone in weight with more coming off still, and I've lost from 18.6 st to 16.10 st now. I will admit I feel loads better, lots more energy, but still tired after working here flat out for a day. I will say I look loads better as well. Gone is the beer belly, and all the comments from the female staff here is encouraging. And at 6'2" it carries even better as I'm well built as well. Enough of blowing my own whistle though.

So, WeightWatchers gets my vote. Basically every food has a points value and you work it out from that. Basically Calorie counting, but you can save your points for the treats like a whole tub of Tesco's chocolate sauce etc.

I'm still at the age where i can eat whatever and it doesn't matter... i still try to monitor what i eat, just not religiously or anything (i keep my Maccas intake down to three times a week :p)...

Despite that, i still keep pretty active... I've refereed soccer for the past 10 years, so spend ~3-6 hours per weekend doing that (including trials, finals and champion of champions, thats from february to october)... when soccer finishes, i then referee an outdoor 6-a-side comp during summer... then all year around fit in the gym twice a week (doing a combination of cardio for fitness and weights for bodytone)...

The trick is to do a variety of activity... if i've had a big weekend of soccer, i won't spend too much time at the gym on cardio, i'll focus on weights instead... but in the off-season i focus more on the cardio side of things... on top of that managing what i eat when as well... i tend to hit the carbohydrates on friday and saturday nights, but then stick to meats, fruit and vegies during the week to balance it out...

(Note: i'm only 24 tho :p)

Can't believe I'm even going to suggest this but my fiance decided to do the GT diet which is all about glycemic index or some such...

In the end we realised what it actually mean't was going for wholemeal pasta, dropping the amount of carbs and replacing it with a bit more meat (usually chicken), veg and actually getting out a cookbook.

It's actually turned a bunch of rather staid boring meals into something quite tasty and whilst the weight isn't exactly dropping off it's improved my attention span and if I could just get out the door to the gym I'd be quite slim... :)
