This reminds me of my youth/early 20's.

When living alone I would live on pasta. One of the 'baddies' I liked to eat were Microwave Sausages. Man what was I thinking?!

Makes me want microwaved sausages, lol

Dale Pinnock - The Medicinal Chef â„¢

Lovely comforting, healthy meals and he does use meat and cheese. I have 2 of his books as there are only a handful of recipes on the site. they are particularly good as he tells you what the foods are good for, e.g. what is good for your digestive system, skin, heart etc so you can tailor what you eat to help make you more healthy.

These two people gave me the inspiration to change my diet. I don't stick to these recipes but they give me ideas on what I can make with natural ingredients, a lot of it very quick and easy and I feel a lot better for it. I eat more now but better stuff, and I have a steady, healthy weight. I have more energy. Also, I make sure I have a stash of healthy snacks that are actually super tasty at work so I can grab one to help me stave off the desire for cake, biscuits and chocolate! if you can't be bothered to make anything, Nakd bars are awesome and come in heaps of flavours (although don't eat heaps of them as the sugar content of dates is high, that said, it is good sugar if there is such a thing and they are not empty calories).

I sit all day at work other than having a wander to stretch my legs. I am not into 'traditional' sport but eventually, in my mid twenties, I found other things I enjoy, such as climbing and snowboarding. I do have a gym membership, although I only really do classes rather than spending ages on the cross trainer and running machine. I enjoy classes because they are a bit more social and you always end up having a natter with other people, which makes the whole thing more bearable. Plus, being in a group motivates me to keep going. I love pilates, Les Mills Body Pump, Les Mills Body Combat and spinning Hiit classes. Pilates does wonders for a posture if you are sitting all day too (and yes men can do it, there are plenty of guys in my class)!

You will find a form of exercise you enjoy, just keep trying different things.

Simply cut up carrots, potatoes, peppers, onions etc, add meat and follow instructions.

Lost interest at this point.

I've been alone again for eight years and I just don't get the same buzz from preparing and cooking anymore. Got a slow-cooker and a 'food-processor', and slowly worn the novelty of those out, too.

I tell myself I'm being lazy, but the fact remains there's other things I'd rather do than stand there and clean and chop carrots, peel, par-boil and roast, potatoes, chop peppers, onions, garlic and so on. So as well as baked potatoes, I eat a lot of steak. Expensive but affordable for the moment. Quick, tasty, filling, easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy.

And I don't care about all the warnings about red meat either, so win/win.

Eh, chopping only takes 5 minutes so I don't mind doing it.. Although mashed potatoes with unskinned spuds are yummy.

I'm sort of with you on this - as someone who also lives alone, I really can't be bothered to spend much time on cooking for myself. However I am fortunate that as I get free school meals for doing a lunch duty once a week, its not really a problem. When I get home I go for a run and then its usually something between 2 slices, or something on toast!

What I don't do is buy snacks and biscuits when I shop - if they are in the cupboard then they will be eaten!

Things I have done here over the years to stay healthy:-

Swapped biscuits for fruit when junk eating at the desk

Swapped diet coke for water

Use a small water bottle and walk to the dining hall more frequently to fill up said bottle

Take a lunch break and do something with it. I go for a 2km walk round town whenever possible, takes about 25 mins, helps clear my head as well as stay physically fit.

Get involved with school sports. i am actively involved with football in the school and am now the referee for all home matches.

Avoid eye strain - check lighting in your office etc

Take the number for Domino's off speed dial when working late even though they deliver to my office ;)

I don't think I'd even fit through the doorway anymore if that were me :D

OK

Just been for a regular check-up and been told that my blood pressure is "a bit high" and to come back and see a doc in a few weeks.

Great! Our family have a history of low,not high, blood pressure..:(

What can I do? I am not at the point of pills yet and I really don't want to be.

I don't drink, don't smoke, am a healthy weight, eat sensibly and get a reasonable amount of exercise.

Now of course every headache I get is a worrying thing ...

I personally do things like, going round the IT Suites and makes sure they are tidy, visual inspections of equipment are good for this too. If you are responsible for the CCTV system for example you might want to put in place a daily visual inspection (weather permitting).

Might start following some of the advice on here... i mean you should see how unhealthy my lifestyle is right now xD

Though i'm only 18 so i'm not worried about any immediate health risks, but being healthy now would probably do me a lot of good in the future.

Example of what me and my friends are like:

If you really are drinking high amounts of fizzy drinks like that, being over weight when your older isn't your only problem, its gonna be type 2 diabetes which isn't a condition that will creep up in later life. It could happen now.

I'm the opposite as some on here. Because i am sat on my backside most the day i find it impossible to sleep well at night, so i weight lift and swim 1+ mile every night. I get home from training, eat and fall into a nice sleep that my body needs rather than tossing and turning. Motivation is hard and you need to find something you enjoy doing. For example, If you hate going for a run you won't stick at it for the long term and end up back to square one.
