CAM Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 I picked up a Deathstrike Launcher yesterday for my secondary Scions/Guard force. It's basically a giant ICBM mounted on the back of a Chimera. 12"-Unlimited range, S10 AP1, Ordnance 1, Barrage, Ignores Cover, One-Shot, Apocalyptic Blast.

I was Dark Eldar but I sat back and let the Harlies come to me, jinked all their anti-tank firepower, then decimated them with close range shots and a squad of Incubi. My opponent had some unlucky dice rolls with the Shadowseer suffering two perils in a row and two dragged into the warp results (Slaanesh fed well that turn) followed by five Wyches trouncing the Solitaire.

Its only once every 6 to 7 weeks that I am busy on Thursday which just happens to be this Thursday How many points should I bring? Any special rules? Missions? Will bring a Tau army possibly Tau Farsight codex but not Farsight himself.
thepridster Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 @Pottsey Bring whatever you want and from experience any points is acceptable but if you want to be done in a night usually upto 2k is sensible as most people play 7-11pm and people are usually ok with either rolling a mission or just agreeing on one no set scenarios or anything really as for tau I expect you to arrive in suitably fitting attire for your army. Anything cheese related the stronger the better 1

I found in 3000pts you could bring a 9 riptide's that would still be a bound list or within the FOC. You had to use the forgeworld riptides but it could be done. If you went for an unbound list, (No organisation restrictions) you could bring 11 Now possible with the 7th edition rules, lol

'Bound' shouldn't need to be a thing, on account of 'Unbound' shouldn't be a thing. Another one of the reasons I stopped going to down my FLGS, 70% of the patrons are kids, and about half of those insist on unbound armies. No. Buy the Codices, buy the right units, and play it properly. Ignoring FOC is only acceptable in a quick 2-turns test where you're wanting to experiment with a little combo you just devised and can't be bothered bringing HQ etc because it's unimportant. Not for a full 5+ turn game.
thepridster Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 I've seen and played unbound lists now it all really comes down to the player. if you've got a guy who brings as many riptides as possible to win at all costs then there's not really a reason other than to be a bit of a git. However if a player brings a couple of the larger point models to fill out his points as he plans to use them in a full list but lacks all the other required options that's fine he's building an army around those models. unbound is really designed for those people who want to play a average game with the models they own rather than waiting to have a full force.
Garacesh Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 (edited) I completely get that, and I also get that W40K is bloody expensive and some of the younger patrons are going to have trouble amassing a full army.. But with the models they do have, they could have easily filled the HQ + 2 Troops requirement instead of buying the 'big badass model' (that's probably a Heavy Support or Fast Attack), one box of troops, and two units of Elites. And especially now with most armies having alternate FOC's, buy your codex first and plan out your army >.< It just grinds my gears. If you and a buddy show up and have planned to play unbound, that's fine. But don't challenge me to a game, specify all the points, get all your models out, and then go "Yeah my army is unbound by the way.".. Inconsiderate. Edit: I have no issue playing a 500-750 points game and showing a newbie the ropes. I actually quite enjoy it, it's fun to get newcomers hooked And the small-points games are nice and relaxed, usually, as I explain the rules to them etc (and even make a "mistake" or two to bolster their confidence in themselves and their army).. It's just these kids that aren't even aiming to meet FOC that bother me. If you're not interested in playing 'properly' that's fine. Not everybody will want to play the game as it's 'supposed' to be played. But tell me before I'm unpacking my models. Standard manners. thepridster Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 yeah a heads up is always polite I always say what army I'm using and ask if its ok to use a lord of war or a superheavy I also bring back up lists just incase and sometimes say pick from list A B or C

The first company of a space marine chapter, a tank company from the Astra Militarum, a non-Farsight Crisis suite tau strike force, etc It makes it easier to create a narrative for your games. I think if you have to use an unbound list to win no matter what, your missing the point of what Warhammer 40k is.
CAM Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 I've yet to fight unbound because my local club tends to play within FOC. I myself have a few odd bound lists though via formations (6 fast attack!) or a bizarre codex (Inquisition, 1 HQ, 1 Elite and a Land Raider as dedicated transport alongside Imperial Guard. They are why the minimum legal army is a single 25pt character). You can make an armoured list easily within FOC btw. HQ Leman Russ Tank Commander (1-3 Tanks), 2 Veteran Squads mounted in Chimeras, anything from Heavy Support (3-9 tanks!) and fill your Fast Attack with Hellhounds variants (3-9 tanks!). You probably want more Chimera units to consolidate on objectives.
