Any Warhammer 40k'ers on here?

Picked up some Necrons to build and paint whilst I'm cooped up at home.

 

After fifteen years, I think I'm hooked again!

 

The Necron Wraiths are some of the finest plastic miniatures I've ever had the pleasure to build!

After a bit of searching the interwebz, I've now got current copies of the rules and all codices so I can learn everything I need before the shops reopen.

Who sprays Necrons silver? Eugh!

 

Spray black, drybrush leadbelcher, highlight ironbreaker, add colour (I've gone for blues for the emblems, details and weapon chamber (I hate that green)) base, done.

 

Other than metallics (Citadel ones are still best) I'm trying our Vallejo Game colour acrylics. They seem pretty nice so far.

I've been using a mix of Citadel and Vallejo for my DEldar, gotta say I really do prefer the Vallejo stuff.

Bought a bunch of empty dropper bottles to transfer my Citadel paints into, too.

It's really nice. So far I've just got the extra-opaque set. Goes on really well, mixes well and take a drop of water nicely too.

The guns need finishing, the blade on the guns needs some highlights, the Scarabs need some shade on the metallics and highlights on the eye.

And all the bases need finishing off.

I've not done as much painting during lockdown as I'd have thought, but I've been putting the finishing touches to some Kastelan robots for my AdeMech. I honestly can't decide whether I'm happy with them or not, since I've been staring at them for so long. I've found these models particularly difficult in terms of deciding when they're 'done'. I think it's the larger, smoother surfaces compared to human-sized minis.

I'm always averse to try switching to another range of paints, since I've usually got some existing models painted with citadels that I want to match the colours and finish up to.

 

However, I'm getting a new army itch, so I might try some alternatives on something brand new. The citadels seem a little variable in quality and I like the idea of dropper bottles.

I rarely use a paint straight from the pot - Metallics aside & I still use citadel for those - and will always drop a bit on my palate to mix with something else.

Doing it this way, it's easy to pick and choose which paint from which manufacture.

Some spikey poison boiz I've finished tonight, plus some Reavers from a while ago, plus a custom objective marker (that both now need repainting as I'm going with red rather than the purple, and bone-coloured weapons instead of black, but c'est la vie)

I got to scratch the 40k itch last night by playing a game with friends in Tabletop Simulator. It worked far better that I thought it would and still retained the feel of a real 40k game. It has a big advantage in that you can experiment with playing completely different armies and units to what you've collected and painted.

That's the first 10-man squad of Kabalites fully painted!

And then probably another 10 that I'll pick up at some point...

I thought I'd share my first proper attempt at an object source lighting effect. I'm quite pleased with it, although I'll now have to go back and apply it to all of my other AdMech models, since they all have some glowing blue bits on them somewhere.

Thanks. One tip I've seen is to put on a layer of varnish first, so that if it goes badly you can try and get it off again. Although that's also quite a scary prospect.

I expected to have to do a few different practice runs to figure out the colours for Wracks, but I reckon I've nailed it in one!

So things have levelled up for me recently.

 

Been painting this rather lovely squad of Immortals in twenty minute bursts for about a week.

 

 

Then this arrived.

 

 

Some of the new models are cracking! These are next on my list to paint.

 

 

I won't need to buy anything else for a while at least!

I think the Indomitus box would take me about 5 years to paint up at my current rate.

 

I might reach my goal of 2000pts of AdMech once 10th edition arrives!

I really love the new necron models. Some nice new detail without changing too much, really keeps the theme consistent.

 

I haven't pained anything in a little while.. Last thing I finished was t these wracks.

Converting the Push-fit miniatures is trickier than normal sets but not impossible. I've got a nicely modded Judicar that I plan to paint later this week.

Not 40k but maybe close enough to still be of interest

 

For my Birthday in July I picked up a 3D resin printer. Over the last month or so I have really got into 3D modelling and created quite a few bits for Gaslands which uses modded hotwheels/matchbox type toy cars.

 

This might not look like much but it has take over 100 hours to get it to fit perfectly to the original metal hotwheels body. Though a lot of that time was spent learning how to do it.

 

And this was something I made for a competition to create a car with a Steampunk theme (and the original car it was built on).
