Garacesh Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 So since this thread kind of went off on a bit of a tangent about EVE for a while.. Does anyone actively play it? I used to play a lot of EVE and I tried the 14-day-trial not long ago.. The game still intrigues me but I find I just cannot play MMO's on my own.. It's completely beyond me. I need a few buddies. I'm tempted to give it a bash anyway and take @Arreks advice about joining a noob-friendly corp, but I figured before I'd make my final decision I'd see if anyone else out there was playing. Never hurts to have a few allies, no?

Marshall_IT Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 I just can't play eve anymore. I absolutely loved the game. Too much really, it was eating up so much of my time and i know i just can't play causally. I'd need to send money to get isk as i wouldn't have the time to earn isk.

If we're being realistic here (from my own experience); you could spend between £20-60 on a Steam or console game and not play it for more than a month. You could pay for a month of EVE time for less money, and if you got into a friendly corp or big alliance I can guarantee you'd play it enough to at least make that nominal sub fee worth it! From anywhere between Day 1 and Day 30, you could be part of large-scale fleet warfare in nullsec space and participate in Alliance/Corp wars, you could mine and sell ore to an alliance/corp to fuel the cogs of war or even build your own equipment to sell on the market - even go exploring. Sure the ships you'd be flying in that fleet would only be frigates, and sure you'd only be manufacturing small items and churning out small amounts of ore; but the feeling of being part of something bigger than yourself can be quite addictive. *edit* I'm not subbed this month, probably won't be until at least the 20th -ish but if you do decide to sub then I'll help you out. A lot of players don't communicate much because CCP actively encourage corporate espionage, double-crossing, triple-crossing and any kind of shady practice so long as it's able to be done in the game. That's not to say you've gotta stumble across the right people at the right time (as per the rather cool video @LiamH posted), you just gotta start small with noob friendly corps (who probably treat that corp as a 'application' corp before letting you into the main one, eventually..) and work up the ladder, join in with the fun, get to know people.

CAM Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 I used to play but last logged in back in 2011 when I was in the University whilst simultaneously making "friends" with some local pirates. Corp war lockdowns made me leave the Uni then pottered around on my own before quitting. Before that I was exploring wormhole space for a brief stint then got bored of it, that's the worst part of the game when you don't know anyone. >.<
localzuk Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Used to play loads, but my alliance went in a direction I wasn't keen on to be honest, so I lost interest. I did love the game though! Spent 3 years playing, with 3 accounts by the end. I think it also changed because of how my life changed - I went from wanting something detailed and involved, to wanting something I could relax to. So, instead of ad-hoc deciding to go do a bit of mining, or a bit of hunting, things became "we're doing XYZ at 3am GMT", which just never worked out for me. I'd probably get back into it if I found a new corp which was more casual to be honest!
halbaradkenafin Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 I'm in the "used to play too much" group as well, spent some of last year doing stuff with random corps and alliances and then got bored of the stuff happening and gave all my isk away to Eve Uni, kept a few ships and stuff for the memories (including a large rigged Drake I got from a friend) and then never logged in again. I get the urge to play again sometimes but remember I have no isk and really don't want to grind it again and that's enough to keep me away and playing other things instead.

At the moment trying out the Amarr T3 destroyers and grinding for rep with an NPC corp so I can store clones in their station. Play on and off - probably would play more if I joined a player corp. Like EVE. Gives you alot more freedom to do what you want.

You should, can't really go wrong with a tenner for a month to see if you'll enjoy it xD Also if you join a noob friendly corp, make sure that they aren't at war with The Marmite Collective. You really don't want to be in a corp that is at war with them or you'll be waving bye to all your ships all over high-sec. Also suggest adding a couple people on here as contacts as i'm sure we could probably help out xD edit- that spelling though.

"Cheap" is determined by how long it took you to gather the funds That's about an hour of missions (level 4) or a few wormhole sites (if you get lucky drops) or about half an hour of Incursions (if they are still a thing).
Ghostgame Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 For me 50mil takes around about a week of work. 1 day for mining. 4 days for the items to be manufactured (I usually manufacture ammo as that always sells) 2 days for the items to be bought up on the market. While items are being manufactured and sold, I can do more mining or PvE.

Been getting some real itches to resub the the past few months strangely. The most left field one was while waiting to pull a world boss in wow, stood there with 39 other players waiting around thinking "oh i remember the tension you had when aligning with hundreds of other pilots before a huge engagement in eve. Just waiting for the FC to call the jump/warp range"
