SIMS - Registrations and Admissions

Hi all,

 

We are an international in the far east, and every year we have to manually process thousands of application form which involves updating applicant's contact info as they usually apply before arriving the country. I know there is in SIMS there is a module called SIMS Registrations and Admissions. I would like to gather some thoughts or perhaps experiences sharing on this module whether is worth for investing?

WinDirStat GPL software for visualising the disk usage on arbitary disks/paths/unc shares. Basically you can use this tool for finding and deleting whatever is taking your disk space up.

Hi, not to be a salesperson but look at Vsware.ie they will pretty much give u a system that you want at a very good price. Either email them or call and ask to speak to the boss, Patrick. I am sure he will do you a good deal. I am also at an international school and the service they give us is excellent.

Hi, Is it SIMS integrated? had a quick glance, doesn't seem to have the admission modules? would you mind to PM me what international you are work for, just want to get a sense how the admission module would look like.

Happy to share info public or private - i'm based in Saudi. Used to use SIMS, but recently moved to DoubleFirst Engage.

 

VSware is an alternative to SIMS, so using it for admissions wouldn't help you.

 

Our system Engage also has it's own very advanced admissions system which includes, a web contact form, that parents fill in online, it is just being reviewed to include improvements submitted by different schools. I'm pretty sure you can upload files such as passport copies etc. We don't use the web forms at the moment, so the registrar's office keys in data manually. We only input basic info, until they reach the place offered stage, at which point we'll put in a whole lot more.

 

We survived for many years with only the built-in SIMS admissions functions, and didn't end up buying the add-on module. We didn't see too many extra benefits, though it might be useful for you. I can't find a link to any recent info, my brochure is 4 years old, but it would manage the whole process to cover marketing, tracking initial enquiries and developing those into applications, give you stats, let you manage selection, i think even record assessments and link to the assessment module.

 

So if you need all that, you should get in touch with your account manager, they used to give a free consultation about whether you need it. It doesn't add that much to your annual maintenance.

 

@escalpemos2000 - interested to hear about where you are, and your experience of moving to vsware. What did you have before?

 

We should have an international schools group / page - there are a lot of issues that come up that can be quite specific to the international market, maybe when we move to the new platform and roll out EduGeek X.0

A consideration for you is; is it the processing of the application forms that is consuming your time? Are you looking for a whole process, or looking to streamline a process you already have? Are you looking to have an online/self service application feed into your MIS?

I work in a sixth form only school in England. We receive applications via a web application form. From there, I export application data into excel and using a word mail merge, produce an ATF file that can be directly imported into SIMS to create an applicant record. I tend to import name, address, telephone numbers, e-mail addresses and previous school.

 

This can all be done without having to purchase the additional license via 'Routines - Admissions - Import ATF file'.
