Deadlift, squat and bench press. I'm going to be lucky to equal what I did in March. I had 3 weeks out a few weeks ago and it's knocked my progress back significantly. I also feel a bit disheartened because I see what other people lift.

I know I shouldn't look at other peoples numbers... but I'm like, meh, what's the point? I really don't have a competitive bone in my body!

I get like that though, my friend has made better progress than me and it gets me down. I've also had to reduce the weight on my bench to get my form on track, sometimes feels like i'm going no where if not backwards. Then, every now and again comes that workout where you break your PB and you feel awesome. Good luck in your comp! Hope you beat your records!

Thanks.

It doesn't help when I've had about 3 people approach me and tell me I should try speaking to suchabody, they will get you progressing... basically trashing my PT.

So yeah, going to give the competitive element a rest, because it's no fun to train anymore.

Das not it Joanne. If you're only lifting 12 grams for their 400kg raw benches nobody gives a funk. Go out there and kill it - it's only you vs you if you're not feeling competitive, and that's all that really matters anyway.

Now hold on while I shout some more slogans at you:

Good form.

Do work.

Report back and bask in glory. :)

But don't quit lifting if you quit competing! A bit of a break is ok I guess, but the gym will always be calling. I know folks who set out to have two or three weeks off the gym and then get into this weird shame-hole situation where they can't get back in, and then only lift half what they lifted, and then quit. So don't do that.

Hahahah, thanks guys. I most certainly will not give up lifting, or going to the gym... just going to do what I want instead of a training plan. It just feels like a chore at the moment doing deadlifts and bench press whereas before it was fun.

I just want the fun back!! :)

Going to start some cardio after this weekend too. Want to start cycling to work... should be worth a laugh!

Hats off to you Joanne!

Myself, I cant seem to stay on a routine. I am somewhat slim and can run for a couple of hours a night, but I just cannot keep motivated enough to get on the treadmill after a long exhausting day at work. Maybe booking a holiday and buying clothes too small for me will help haha.

I've got someone else to do it for now. Another lady at the competition is in the same boat as me, we will keep each other going.

Maybe find a running partner? I always find I do best if someone else is relying on me to be there :)

Some impressive statistics here!

For the record I keep up a reasonable level of fitness but not in the business of trying to break myself.

1x mile per week swimming 45mins

1x 1hr gym session various weights.

1x 1 hr run, sit ups, leg raises etc

That's more than enough to keep mind and body at peace.

Trying a keto diet right now, i've been on high protein diets over the last few years and am very fit and lean but I still want to drop body fat to show off the abs.

Keto is really hard, had my first gym session on it last night and was nearly asleep at the weights machines!

Looking forward to cheat day :)

I weighed in at 63.8kg... 800g over the weight category... if I had been in my weight category I would have come 3/5 and would have got a trophy! Instead I was in the 72kg category and got 5/7... still happy... but.... TROPHY!!!

There will be other competitions!

That's why I have paid for a PT. He can see what I can do - set me up with a training plan that has progress built in and hopefully that will give me the incentive to keep going. I tend to do classes because you meet people and I find it easier to go as I have to be there at a set time :)

Agree. If like me you hate riding in the rain, include a set of rollers, or maybe a turbo trainer, and you can still ride when it's heaving down. Personally, I prefer rollers as you still have to balance as you pedal. Mind you, I do like to run on the treadmill in the gym - it's brain out and go for it. I can't run outside for toffee - you have to look where you're going.

Debating scrapping my gym membership and buying an exercise bike....

Gym is out of range really from my new home ( i could go after work, but then so does everyone else, i hate busy-ness), and the nearest gym to me now is part of a golf club, and is small, not very good ( i hear) but is £35 a month...

You got a bike? just get yourself a turbo trainer £40-50 quid job done :D

Never seen those before (is that bad?)

All i can see are ones in the range of £150...

Don't think they are very mainstream they use them before races in cycling but as Mark182 just posted you can also get rollers which some people say are better because you obviously need to balance and concentrate haha. Anyway I got mine from Turbo Trainers | Bicycle Accessories | Cycling Products | Black Dog Bikes | Call: 0845 319 4835 | Bicycle Accessories | Cycling Products | Black Dog Bikes | Call: 0845 319 4835 had it a year and no problems, would recommend making sure you have a bald tyre on the back
