@RichCowell - Is it worth joining if you cant attend any meetings?

We're looking at starting meetings elsewhere in the country as members grow in those areas... down south is going to be the next one... we're already planning a trip to the HQ of one of our sponsors for all members... we've got an increasing number of members in the London areas, Midlands, and on the South Coast, so will be trying to sort something closer to you soon...

I applied a few days ago, however I am working in the US now so would be unable to attend meetings. Thought it might be useful to have some input about how its done "over the pond" though.

Got your form - we were a little shocked to see one come in from the US lol... You'll get an email once I've processed the new members today... It'll be good to get a different perspective on things...

@fiza, yes it is. If we can get enough members in a particular area then we could maybe put on a meeting. I know we have been offered the use of meeting space by a vendor near the London area.

@AButters, we did spend many an hour before deciding on the current name and something that could be shorted quite easily.

@witch, we welcome everybody from primary to FE. I know we've had a few primary techs attend the first meetings. Like you say we all face the same kind of issues just sometime on different scales and the main aim of the ANME is to get colleagues to network face to face and share ideas and good practice.

@LiamH, never say never. First Lancashire next the world!!!

Having just posted this i noticed @RichCowell had beaten me to the punch.

Just submitted the application - i cant really make the meetings in term time but having meetings in half term holidays would be cool as i get more holiday days for school holidays than term time.

I know what you mean... there are two sides to it though, some people go on holiday in the school holidays as they're not allowed to during term time, and some save all their bigger jobs for the school holidays when they can do them with very few people around... We'll review it in the future though...

The percentage of members who are on EduGeek has risen to 72% in the last few days after posting this thread! I wonder how many more of our members haven't let us know their usernames here, or just use it to read without registering...

Yeah i understand, im one of those who works during the holidays too but there is more of chance to get to meetings during the holidays unless my place will pay for travel over to the other side :p.

We got our second international members as of this morning! That's one in America and one in China... We're just about at the stage to start looking for venues for the meetings down south, not sure we'll get to the stage of venturing overseas, but happy to welcome @LiamH and @xlandhenry as new members! Thanks guys!

Don't forget the Midlands as well - it might be alright for people in the Central Midlands to make their way up or down without too much grief, but both Preston and Oxford are nearly 4 hours away from me in the East Midlands, where somewhere like Nottingham or Leicester would only be a couple of hours and driveable without too early a morning.

Rail links in Lincolnshire are awful, by the way, to the point that my home town doesn't have a train station - I'd have to get a bus to Lincoln to get a train - so early morning drives are the only way I ever get anywhere!

@sonofsanta, when he means down south we are referring to anything where it is south of Manchester!!!! On a serious note we are looking at certain areas of the county with the Midlands being one of the areas.

Would you be interested in having a speaker come and talk about technical training?

There are a few other bits that might be useful, like grants that are available for it staff.

Also if you are looking for a venue for the midlands, might be able to help there as well :)
