Hmmm this inspector gadget guy who was meant to be looking at my car today hasn't called me yet.... I've got a strange feeling it's going to be me having to call the insurers tonight to ask why this guys hasn't bothered to turn up!

@plexer it does make me wonder what I pay insurance for, it's been me putting in all the effort, calling his insurance, calling mine and getting stuff sorted my insurance company has been down-right awful.

Oh yeah... Country girl shake it for me :p

It's a shame country music is under-appreciated in the UK. Are you a Yankee?

(Also nice to know you're still alive :), the dash-cam was pretty cool)

Since hearing this song in 2010 I've been addicted to country music. This song will be and always has been my favourite song of all time!!

Nope although I'd love their way of life, I've never actually visited America but the whole concept of living in a place like Texas makes me so excited, I've even applied for a couple of job over there but never been successful :(

Tell a lie... This was the first country song I ever listened to a very long time ago. God I completely forgot about this. I'll stop now otherwise I'll just fill this page up with country songs

Why are insurance companies making it so difficult these days

It's so frustrating, I understand there is a lot of steps involved but it gets beyond a joke at times. Had a letter from my insurance who are working on a claim thats now almost 6 months on, stating that I need to fill in a form with some details about what happened which I have done a million times, bikes already been scrapped so details of the damage don't seem too important now but I'll jump through the hoops anyway. Got another letter off them the very next day saying that I haven't been in contact and if I wouldn't assist them with my claim then it would be revoked and I would be marked as at fault despite the other persons admission and police reports saying there was nothing I could have done. Blehhh if it hadn't of been a write off I would of cut my losses just to save the hassle which is wrong given the money payed for their cover.

I hope it all gets sorted quickly for you @abillybob

Why are insurance companies making it so difficult these days, it used to be you'd speak to your insurers and they would deal with everything and claim off the others if it was the other partys fault.

Ben

When my son's car was written off just before Christmas he ended up dealing almost exclusively with the other guy's insurance company - he hardly spoke to his at all. They are dealing with the injury bit but that's the extent of their involvement.

He was told that not only would he have to pay the excess if he dealt with his own company, but it would go on the record and affect his future insurance too.

As for the value - he researched on the net and found as many examples as he could of similar cars to present to the loss adjusters for valuation purposes. It worked for him - in his favour actually as his vintage Golf Mk2 needed quite a lot of work but he got the value of a finished one!

I'm surprised by this. I was told by mine under no circumstances to engage in talks with the other persons insurance and to forward on any communication they sent for them to deal with instead :/

I wrote my Ford Focus off, hit a Polo... didnt make a hole though!

My airbags went off, car was compounded by recovery and we abandoned it in Plymouth after emptying it.

I got a CC about a week later.

Car was written off by assessor however it later transpired it went back on the road..... here is the lesson. Dont do what i did and believe your insurance company. Fill in the V5 yourself, send the DVLA your bit and the insurance company there bit of the V5 otherwise you may end up getting a speeding ticket and having the aggravation of sorting that out.

That's odd - but maybe it is because there was no dispute - the other guy took the blame from the off

These are pics of my V reg Mondeo that was written off a couple of years ago when someone pulled out in front of me ... beyond economic repair despite only having a cracked bumper.

Their insurance company made me an offer (£600) which I refused, they eventually upped it to £850 (minus the 10% salvage fee that they charged me) and sent a letter saying that they had no further interest in the vehicle and I was free to do with it what I wished. so I then put it up on ebay and sold it as seen with damage to the bumper for a similar amount. You might not be so lucky, they may keep the car or they may let you keep it in which case you can ebay it for a few more pounds in your pocket.

Pretty much the same with me when somebody hit my car. They were at fault so everything was dealt with by their insurance company, apart from the personal injury stuff.

When I had a bump earlier in the year (my fault) and wrote my car off, I dealt with my insurance company, they made me a stupid offer for my car, I told them it was worth more (source: Autotrader), they went off to check Autotrader, agreed that I was correct and paid that amount (minus 10% which they said you should expect to haggle off the price).

ive seen it both ways with insurance. Some tool in an audi decided my focus needed to be shorter and didn't stop at a roundabout pushing me into a rover in front. My insurance did it all I rang them when I got home (car was drivable just the door open light was on because of the boot (which I tied closed with a shoelace lol) phoned them up dropped off the car at the menders the following morning then walked to the rental place (it was about 1/2 a mile so away I could of got them to pick me up but I thought it was going to be more hassle than it was worth) drove round in a courtesy car for 4 weeks (the menders had a website showing you how far along your car was and it took a long time to paint by the looks) finally got a call saying my car was ready to be picked up on Saturday, washed the courtesy car quickly went to menders to check they weren't having me on dropped off the courtesy car and went home. Hassle pretty much 0 just a few calls when the menders kept adding on time to make sure I could keep the courtesy car.

A mate got hit by some nut job who went through a red light and from what I remember it took 4 YEARS or so to sort for most of which he had a smashed focus sitting on his drive as the insurance didn't want to pay impound fees and increased insurance premiums for him as he had an on-going claim etc all becaue the other driver denied it all the time and as a result as well as the cost of replacing the vehicle their insurer ended up paying out compensation for inflated insurance etc but 4 years takes the pee

Well it's 2pm now and I've had no phone call. Apparently he only works until 3.30pm so it looks as if he's not going to bother turning up, just as I expected nothing is ever simple is it.

I had an accident in November 2013 it has only just been fully settled this week!

4x4 went into the back of me when I was stopped at lights on a roundabout. My back was messed up for a couple of months with physio.

My insurance company delt with it and they did all of the work for me and then claimed from him...

Best of luck!

The chap eventually did turn up, apparently he thinks it's not a write off from the damage he could see (didn't have keys so can't see electric problem, door not opening or any mechanical issues) he reckons the body repair will be £4300 worth when my car is worth £8100! So it got taken to Honda yesterday so they can have a proper look, fingers crossed it all goes well 😊

They've had my car now for three days at the Honda Garage and haven't even had a look at it yet. I called them to ask how it was all going and they'd forgotten about it and left it with the collection company!!!!! They are now going to fetch it and report back to me what the outcome is, I'm fairly disappointed by this if I'm honest and not very pleased that my car has been left with an unknown delivery company for the last 3 days!!

They said it could take another 2 weeks to sort it all out *sigh*. Also the inspector bloke hasn't recorded down some of the damage and missed bits out which I'm really not happy about, I instructed the insurance company to tell the engineer to call me before he looked at the car so I could point the things out to him that needed fixing as a result of the crash, this never happened and I got a call 3 hours late explaining what was going to happen.

Why is it all such a nightmare to get sorted, not only this but the Courtesy car they have supplied me is blatantly illegal there's no tread at all on two of the tires and there wasn't any washing fluid to clean my windscreen so I've had to put my own in, nearly crashed the other day when a lorry flicked loads of mud up at me and I couldn't see a thing and had no washer fluid. To top that off I'm paying £15 for what I was told was for petrol in my courtesy car when it's delivered... which is fine although in the documentation I was given it said I must fill it back up and put £15 in when they come and collect it, so what!?! Essentially I'm paying £30 for £15 of fuel.

What do you pay insurers for really... Absolutely awful.

General Accident. Which have been downright awful, didn't want to help at all,you could just tell. They also wanted to charge me £250 to get my car fixed at my own garage. Won't go with them again, they are a sub-insurer from Aviva.

His insurance which I'm now doing all business through is RSA, they are a little better but far from good. All these silly waiting times, lack of communication just really gets on my nerves.

Insurance from the other side is always a pain to deal with. Admiral have always been cheap for me, and never had any issues with them after my crash(es), although the claim from my one last year is taking a while, and i am awaiting documentation to arrive through the post this week.

Be very careful with courtesy cars! I received a Peugeot 208 from Europcar when I was hit by an uninsured driver. The car was 6 months old, yet I couldn't find a panel that didn't have damage on it. Best part is it didn't even come with the full tank of fuel I paid for! One of the wing mirrors was smashed. Cigarette burn on the drivers seat. Scratches all over the alloys and front bumper. I wish now that I had refused it but since I had to get to work the next day I just accepted it without thinking about it.

The next few weeks with the car were horrendous. Engine warning lights coming on, stereo occasionally just didn't work. The best part though was when the guy from Europcar came to collect it. He got out of his van and walked straight to the scratches on the front bumper, I knew from that point what was coming next. They tried claiming I had done the damage to the car and were going to bill me for the repairs, demanding that I sign a liability form. In the end I refused to sign it and advised that I would call the police if they didn't leave my property. Never heard anything from them again and never billed but it was a nightmare.

Annoyingly i can't remember the name of the company i dealt with, but the car was in good nick, and they showed me the inspection sheet before i had it and let me go around the car and check for damage etc before they signed it over to me. Car was lovely and clean, all four tyres were almost new etcetc./

That's what worries me also. This car has only done 13,000 miles but is in a right mess. There are marks everywhere and when they delivered it I said I wanted to have a look around the car and point out any scrapes or damages. All he did was write on the sheet:

Damage: As Known

This worries me because now there's not a proper record as far as I'm aware of the damage on the vehicle.

Then you need to stop driving it and inform them! As the driver you are responsible for this, irrespective of who actually owns it. [Did they get you to walk around the car before you drove it away, the same way you would with any hire car? >> Just saw you've answered this while I was typing]

If your car gets written off note that they have to give you a fair figure based on buying a similar car (age, mileage, equipment, etc.) from a proper car dealer. They can't use prices on Autotrader from private sales as justification for a lower price.

Problem is though I need to get to work. I've already had 2 days off as a result of this and the SLT lot weren't to happy... don't ask they never are if you have time off make your feel really uncomfortable and whatnot.

I had a walk around it but they didn't ask me too I said I wanted to and then he started sighing and saying he had a few other cars to drop off so I pointed out body work flaws to him and he went on his way.

As 36Degrees as said, if you get pulled (or worse have an accident), the Police will hold you fully accountable. The car hire company wont be the ones with the fines/points/criminal record. You need to call them and insurance company, you have not been supplied a vehicle as per your insurance agreement.

With last week, is it really worth the risk?

I know. What do I do about getting to work then... I can't keep having days off. Grrrrr. So annoyed with the whole situation!!!!
