InterwebsGuy Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 (edited) I'm at my witts end with this... In IE, we are having issues with YouTube and video playback, or thereof the lack of! When trying to access any video, or live video stream (Such as Sky News), they will play but only for about 3-4 seconds before dropping off to a black static screen with the following error "An error occurred, please try again later. Learn more." (see below). Neither the error message or learn more link are helpful. YouTube works fine in other browsers, such as Chrome, so I'm sure it's an IE issue and not proxies or Internet related. Somewhat weirdly, if a video has an ad that plays before the main video, the ad will play without issues. I've been through IE's settings, reset them, tried all different kinds of security levels, trusted sites etc. Worth mentioning though, and something that I think may have started this issue was Iris' support asking us to turn off hardware rendering for video playback in GPO for IE. This has since been restored to the default setting in GP, and seems to make no difference. It also does this on newly imaged machines that couldn't possibly have been affected by that GPO change. Does anyone have any ideas? It's really starting to irritate me! Cheers! EDIT: It happens on Win 7 and 8.1 - the version of IE doesn't seem to make any difference. localzuk Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Do you have a sound device connected - eg. headphones or speakers? People have seen this happen when they don't have any sound device connected. 2
InterwebsGuy Posted January 28, 2015 Author Posted January 28, 2015 Do you have a sound device connected - eg. headphones or speakers? People have seen this happen when they don't have any sound device connected. No, we don't. I'll give that a try.
InterwebsGuy Posted January 28, 2015 Author Posted January 28, 2015 Do you have a sound device connected - eg. headphones or speakers? People have seen this happen when they don't have any sound device connected. I just plugged some earphones in, and boom, it seemed to work. How odd is that? It's not the first thing you'd look at being the issue. Cheers for that, at least I can narrow down the troubleshooting a bit more (there has to be a proper fix, surely?).
Seb1780 Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 (there has to be a proper fix, surely?). If you find one let us know as we are still plugging in each time we want to watch! 1
DalekSec Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 just make sure you have the audio drivers installed, should be fine then if you don't have speaker plugged in that is 1
Seb1780 Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I checked with our techies on the way out and whilst they don't have a fix (just the workaround mentioned above) that have narrowed it down to "sentient" sound cards that recognise when a socket is occupied. "Dumb" sound cards don't have the problem. 1
synaesthesia Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Wonder if the old RM CC3 trick works where this problem was fixed by disabling that auto detection in the drivers. 1
free780 Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 (edited) You need an audio playback device. Or you can use a reg key to disable the audio detection. http://earsonfire.com/thextramoney/2010/05/16/how-to-disable-jack-detection-on-windows-7/ Edited January 29, 2015 by free780 2
InterwebsGuy Posted January 29, 2015 Author Posted January 29, 2015 Great feedback people, I really appreciate it. I'll give this whirl when I am in (Snowday).
ataylor Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 We have had this problem for a while, I gave up in the end and told them to use chrome instead. Will be interesting to do some more testing with this info.
Crumpet Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Have you updated Flash? it was patched recently due to a large vulnerbility: Adobe finds, patches ANOTHER exploited Flash 0day • The Register
themightymrp Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 We've just come across this issue on Youtube in the last 15 minutes! Luckily I had been reading this thread and told the member of staff using it to plug some headphones in. It worked Now to deploy this registry fix
IT_Ninja Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 There are other threads on here about this issue. We too encountered this and it was due to the fact we didn't have the manufacturers audio driver installed. If it's the 'High Definition Audio Device' from Microsoft/ Windows Update - the sound still works with a device installed but will cause the YouTube issue. Download and install it manually and problem solved
