CHR1S Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I have rebuilt all my boot images etc etc and got as far as capturing a syspreped win 8.1 image to a UNC. However it fails with this error - unable to determine destination disk partition and/or drive capture image Failed to run the action, Apply Windows PE I have tried the fix here - Sysprep and Capture task sequence fails when it tries to capture Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 images But still get the same errors.
CHR1S Posted January 28, 2015 Author Posted January 28, 2015 After updating the deployment share (oops, didnt think of that) I now pass that error on to the all to familiar "not enough space on the disk" error.....

I may have hold of the wrong end of the stick here, but I had similar problems when I didn't leave enough space on the virtual disk I used. I couldn't see a way to save the temporary .wim that's created before uploading to a share anywhere apart from the "original" disk - meaning that said disk needs to be almost double the size of the image. Could it be the original disk (that you are creating the image from) that is tight on space? 1

Been a long time since I've done that, but seem to recall it took an age - though this probably was exacerbated by the rubbish USB drive I was using! @LeMarchand did you set the size in ZTIDiskpart.wsf ? Thanks No. *Googles ZTIDiskpart.wsf* I use WDS rather than full-on MDT - though I still think the free space for your temporary image may well be what's throwing the error.

Cant for the life of me put my finger on what I'm missing with the drive size issue.... baby brain.... I know exactly what your saying and think its the problem, but cant think of a way to fix it
LeMarchand Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 What size is the laptop drive, and how much free space does it have? If the free space is >50%, I'm barking up the wrong tree! (Also assuming there's plenty of space in your capture share).

If you have created a sysprep and capture only task sequence in MDT you need to start it on the running operating system, not by booting into WinPE. D'oh Edited January 29, 2015 by CHR1S

Michael Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Just a thought - did you partition the volume when installing Windows 8.1, to say 100GB, even though the actual hard disk is 500GB? The reason I ask, is because I'm curious as to how your imaging process sees all that empty space.

Michael Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Is it anything to do with the fact it's an OEM license rather than Volume? Also how big is your UNC volume on the server you're trying to back up to?
