beancole Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Hi All, This is a question that's been asked before and will no doubt be asked again. I need a new help desk system but I have some specific requirements;- Free! customisable (CSS, colours, branding, logo etc.) web accessible (access through a web page I can host) and links to active directory, so that users dont need to login when inside school so using authorisation through IIS 7.5 I want something that has no gumf, is simple to look at and use. Oh and not spiceworks! I was in the process of implementing Liberum but found issues when installing it and couldn't find support anywhere to get me through. Thanks in advance, Ben
Arreks Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Sorry but.. Spiceworks! though for the helpdesk side of things, customization is limited unless you want to dig around their core files. How comes you don't want to use Spiceworks out of curiosity?
network41 Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Freshdesk free for up to 4 tech's I think 1
bossman Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Liberum here totally free and meets the requirements (Simple interface for the Staff) hehe! Liberum Help Desk - Open source help desk software
Iain.Faulkner Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Currently setting one up in Sharepoint...just started initial user testing. very customizable, allows me to do exactly what i want....its very fiddly though and easily broken!!
mdrabble Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 inherited SysAid - looking to reinstall as runs like a three legged donkey
SHimmer45 Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 HESK is what we use here which can plug into AD and email etc and you can customise the look (even in the free version to a point)
beancole Posted January 21, 2015 Author Posted January 21, 2015 Sorry but.. Spiceworks! though for the helpdesk side of things, customization is limited unless you want to dig around their core files. How comes you don't want to use Spiceworks out of curiosity? had nothing but problems with it in the past. I want people to be able to use it at home, and it is suggested by spiceworks that you dont open up the spiceworks ports to the outside world.
beancole Posted January 21, 2015 Author Posted January 21, 2015 Liberum here totally free and meets the requirements (Simple interface for the Staff) hehe! Liberum Help Desk - Open source help desk software Currently retrying Liberum, I installed the 1.0 beta last time and think that is where the problem lies. checked source forge downloads per month and found the previous version is still much more popular. will check in how I get on
localzuk Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Hmm... I'd say Request Tracker. Completely customisable, default UI is minimalistic. Only thing is, kinda need to run it on Linux really!
beancole Posted January 21, 2015 Author Posted January 21, 2015 We use HAP - and ticks all your boxes. I use hap for folder access from home. it require the user to log in again. I don't want staff to log into a computer, then log into the intranet, then also have to log into a job system.
DMartin Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 I have used SharePoint, Sysaid and LanDesk. SharePoint is great (once you get your head around it) but easily broken (I broke it a few times in my years) Sysaid and LanDesk are great but paid alternatives. 1

beancole Posted January 21, 2015 Author Posted January 21, 2015 What people really need is @Dageezah to package up his ICT Job system and put it out in the world.
gaz003 Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 I use Manage engine service desk. It is free up to 5 helpdesk users. It is reasonably easy to customise although I have not being able to change the main screen logo. Its great to connect to active directory and locate users importing them into the system. Users can log in with their active directory credentials. Have a look and see what you think?
smalls001 Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 osTicket :: Support Ticket System | osTicket is free and very good.
daneil16 Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 We used to use Spiceworks. Great program but we have been using OSTicket for the past month and much faster than Spiceworks and allows you to create knowledge base which is handy. Also allows you to create users and put them into teams. So we have our IT, Data, Site management etc all on the same helpdesk.
pete Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Hmm... I'd say Request Tracker. Completely customisable, default UI is minimalistic. Only thing is, kinda need to run it on Linux really! This is what we use (4.2.9), but you do need some experience of swearing at sparse documentation in places when setting it up.
DaveAngel Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 at my last place we made our own one, current workplace Spiceworks having never used it before I really like it.
elsiegee40 Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 It would be useful if you could explain why something is pants... otherwise such comments are, at best, unhelpful
