A five-year-old boy has been billed for failing to attend a friend's birthday party

Unless it was a "pay on entry" party (wouldn't surprise me these days) surely she would have had to pay if the little chap had turned up? She'd have lost the £16 either way.

That's pathetic. If you were bothered about your £16, you'd go and speak to his dad directly... not send an invoice!! Some people.

Hahahahaha  That's brilliant... He should have contacted her, I don't believe he didn't have the means to contact her to tell her that he won't be going especially when they said before hand that the child was going. Bit unethical.

Though sending an invoice is just pure brilliance, I say nice one. Next time maybe the farther will be ars** to call someone next time his child can't make it to a party. A ski party in Devon wouldn't have been cheap either so I can understand why she's annoyed, but to send an invoice... haha I just can't, I just can't. :pound:

yes it would have been polite to call and say sorry cant make it,

however how did she know that the child wasn't ill or something else ,

I think she's annoyed that her child got one less present than she thinks they should have got

Also - a ski party for 5 year olds? Judging by the way some kids turn up to school unable to use the toilet or eat with a knife and fork and especially look in the direction they're moving - is that appropriate?

(I don't have kids so maybe 5 year olds are better coordinated than the ones I see!)

OMG... I've been Chillfactore snowboarding and there have been TINY kids zooming down the main slope... ski's and snowboards (the child who was snowboarding had a board the size of a skateboard... that's how small he was) you'd be surprised!

If that's the level they are going to bring it down to I would go to the bank and withdraw £15.95 in 1p coins and post them all through the letterbox 1 by 1 see how they like that

2 can play their childish games

Maybe I just work in a rough area! (Actually, there's no "maybe" about it).

Can't do that, unfortunately. AFAIK, legally speaking, if you owe a debt of greater than £10, the debtor is able to reasonably refuse certain methods of repayment. You'd drop all those pennies through her door and then A) have to go and collect them again, or B) be £16 down and still 'indebted' to her...

To be fair, half the kids at my school can't even catch a ball... I travel to this slope! Hahahah!

That's a Shame, I'll have to keep that in mind for any parties I don't attend under the value of £10 then :pout:

Very petty to do this, loads of people miss children's parties especially if you have kids of your own. It's just one of those things isn't it? He should happily win in the small claims given she probably didn't inform him of any cost or indeed no-show fee when they were invited.

I wonder (said in a mister bond baddy voice)

if she's issuing invoices is she filing a tax return? because im sure that this is NOT a legitimate business expence

LOL As a veteran of the Grandvalira I, too, can attest to the whole herds of tiny children zooming fearlessly down the piste. Kids have a lot less distance to fall so they tend to be a bit kamikaze about the whole thing. Seriously, ski-ing cautiously down a challenging Red run it's embarrassing to be overtaken by a a ski instructor with a bunch of kids zooming along behind her like little brightly coloured ducklings.

Not as embarrassing as zooming past the group only to plough head first into the ground ;-)

Lol this bit as reported as well

The host's mother could have little luck getting back the £15.95 in court - where the administration fee to make a claim is £25.

Yes but if you are claiming against a genuinely owed amount you then add the £25 on top so they would then owe £40.95 if it was enforceable.

I keep misreading this thread title as "A five-year-old boy has been killed for failing to attend a friend's birthday party", which would make for a much more depressing thread.

Thank goodness - I thought it was just me :(

She'll be instituting that policy next year.
