Morning all.

Does anyone know if the distribution lists from the current Exchange server's Address Book tool copy over automatically? We've got our change over starting tomorrow, and we use the current shared distribution lists a lot. I could do without working on those today, but if it has to be done I need to get a move on for the switchover.

Cheers.

I seem to have distribution lists in my outlook which weren't there before... so I'm guessing yes!

@Mark182 they did it all overnight, works like a dream. Just had people saying that they didn't like it... but I just say, "Well, it wasn't me!!" although I would have been using 365 long ago given the choice :)

Happy days! How did your staff find temp passwords? I spent most of Monday E-mailing 200 odd members of staff their temp passwords.....

I've got a list in my room. I told them to come and see me. Bit different in a primary school though innit.... not as many people, e-mail not as critical. I gave the head, bursar, secretaries and dep head their passwords first on the morning after the switch over.

Thanks.

I've got to admit, that is a bit of a surprise! Anything to make this a bit easier is a major positive as I don't think some of our staff are going to take this changeover well.

Best thing to happen yesterday was that I allowed our very vocal pastoral support TA to have a look at Office 365 even though the emails aren't migrated yet and she LOVED it - which was great :)

In the last 16 months we have had Office 365, users have had to get used to at least 5 tweaks to the OWA interface as Microsoft has rolled out new features, but our lot seem to have gotten used to it by now.

Every month or so I send out a simple newsletter that highlights any significant change and explain some of the feature in the e-mail side alone that has been introduced (such as the new groups feature that was out in September)

We were migrated in early November, two weeks ago we stopped receiving external emails completely and it took them 2 days to rectify the problem(It was affecting multiple schools) and today the same issue seems to have reared its head. Teething problems?

Ah thanks. That would explain the call I've just had from our Head that I need to look into.

We haven't been migrated yet but I did notice an undeliverable email report in one users box who I helped with their password and that was for another school. We shouldn't be getting any emails yet!

For those who have migrated is it possible to integrate with your AD at this point?

We're not using it, but the option is there to use onramp and Azure Active Directory integration with on-premise AD.

Well we've not had all the email addresses sent through, there's 2 missing of the list at the moment. Any ideas of how to add extra email addresses?

Log in as the itcoord email address(I believe Head and Bursar have admin privileges too) and there should be an admin menu in the top right hand corner, there's a section there for reviewing all the user accounts and creating new ones.

My understanding was that the user lists were sent off to whoever is actually doing the transfer some time ago. If you've added a user to the system since then they won't be automatically transferred. I believe you can either request a manual transfer once the bulk of the work has been done, or you can download email in the account via a PST (I assume in Outlook) and upload that to Office 365 once you've manually created the account there.

This is the basis of what I was told by a support tech at BTLS. I've not tried this myself yet but will be giving it a go later in the week once our main move is done.

Hope that makes sense!

Thanks for that, logged in as itcoord and created the 2 missing accounts, will have to see whether they are moved over automatically if not i'll have to put a request in, strange thing is one of the email accounts has been on the system for 9 months, other just over 1 month.

If they aren't in the user list then chances are they won't have their mailboxes migrated over even after you manually create them.

You can do as mcowly suggested and log into outlook 2010 with their mailbox and export a PST file to import after the migration or phone BTLS and ask them what the deal is.

Just so you guys know, if you haven't heard already, some work has been taking place today to fix the delivery issues. We were scheduled to have our transfer tonight but it has now been cancelled as BTLS are making some pointer changes to get emails through and stop the bouncing.

well is doesn't seem to have worked! as i have 5 undeliverable emails in my inbox this morning from emails i sent 4 days ago to a school who migrated last week!

We are having issues aswell E-mailing schools who have moved! We move at the weekend. Not looking forward to it if I'm honest!

At least you have someone to blame - any issues we had were all my fault :(

I donno, I don't like it when things are out of my control. I feel helpless as I have to rely on them.

Actually, issues like e-mails not being received by schools that have moved are more the fault of the e-mail host than the school.

Not all mail servers always go off and check the DNS entry to see where it where the e-mail should be sent to every single time. And even then, those that do might not have picked up the DNS change that you logged to say that your mail is now being sent to Office 365 for up to 48 hours.

Thing is...they (BTLS) have been planning the migration since last year! it was included in last years SLA...

it was planned to be done during the summer, which would of made sense as schools are closed...if a DNS change over takes upto 48 hours, then why do it during term time? why do it midweek?
