Quackers Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 The Mac OS already has basic anti malware built in called X Protect. Its completely silent to the user. Couple this with gatekeeper, and OS X's model of running as a user then elevating to root when doing some modification to the machine you should be good.
Dos_Box Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 (edited) Well, I've just run a new install of Sophos and AdWareMedic and have just dug out 5 nasties on an 'uncared for' MacBook Pro this very morning which look like they had been there for some time. I don't think X protect is quite as good as it could be, especially as you can't see any reports from it easily. Third party AV and anti-malware FTW. TBF, this is the first time I have ever seen such things on a Mac, but it is very telling that it took third party tools to detect and remove them. Edited November 27, 2014 by Dos_Box 1

Norphy Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 (edited) We use SCEP. The Mac version of SCEP that is. If you have EES, you're probably already covered. It's essentially a rebadged version of the ESET AV client so it seems pretty good too. That's on college Macs. Do I run AV on my Macs? Nah. Edited November 27, 2014 by Norphy
3s-gtech Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Sophos on our Macs here. Integrates nicely with our server setup, and the home version is free too. Seems pretty light on resources, as much as these things ever are.
