CAM Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 PC has finally arrived! And next gen consoles. Anyone tried it yet? Tempted to pick up a copy, not sure what platform as it depends if the PC port is any good. A few people are a bit "meh" at first person but after watching footage of it, well, expect a barrage of violence articles to crop up again as it considerably changes how the game feels!
SovietRussia Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Along with Far Cry 4! GTA V for PC though is out in January?
LoyalHeretic Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 (edited) I thought the PC version was delayed until January? Bah, beaten in a photo finish.. Edited November 18, 2014 by LoyalHeretic Beaten, like the proverbial.
jaminben Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 (edited) I too thought the PC version had been delayed till January? Edit Steam has it for an early 2015 release. I got all excited for a moment then Edited November 18, 2014 by jaminben
CAM Posted November 18, 2014 Author Posted November 18, 2014 Gah! I was wondering why Steam wasn't showing the price.
Grey-gear Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 So anyone getting it for the PS4 or Xbox One?
synaesthesia Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Nope, I prefer to play GTA on the platform it was intended for

blu4 Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Heaven hahaha, brilliant!! That will be my poster soon!
LosOjos Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 I'd rather they delay it and do it properly than give us another bad port... let's just hope they don't still give us a bad port! Can't wait to see those 4K textures on my nice new telly (will no doubt cry when my GPU can't handle it (it definitely can't handle it))
bennz Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 My PS4 copy should attend my home today, exciting for 30player servers
DMcGuigan Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 PC is 27th Jan, picking it up for PS4 this afternoon.. I know a few R* Devs so it's going to be fun to play against them Don't think I'm going to carry my stats over though, it's been that long since I've played I want to start from scratch.

LosOjos Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 (edited) quad sli with titan black z should give you 4k 60fps xD Yeah, but I'm sure my GTX 760 will be playable! (it won't) I'm a bit of an oddity amongst PC gamers - I really don't understand the fuss over getting minimum 60FPS. You can't physically see that many FPS! I'm happy with a 40FPS average, still more than you can actually interpret and still enough not to notice any 'juddering'... EDIT: in fact I'll happily play a game at 30FPS, though I admit once you start dropping below that, things get ugly. Oh, and I always use Vsync - nothing irritates me more than screen tear. So, anyone want to tell me why I'm wrong? (I should probably start a new thread...) Edited November 18, 2014 by LosOjos

I'm happy with a 40FPS average, still more than you can actually interpret and still enough not to notice any 'juddering'... 40FPS would be out of sync with any monitor refresh I can think of so would cause tearing. Also I'm sure I've read arguments/reports that suggest the human eye can detect movement faster than 100fps depending on circumstances. Truth is the human eye is a marvel of engineering that I'm sure we can't match technically. Anyway, I'm happy with 30fps if it is 100% fixed, for most games.

Domino Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Oh, and I always use Vsync - nothing irritates me more than screen tear. You should probably consider a g-sync monitor then.. also, you're wrong.
synaesthesia Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 There's a few good reasons why many fast FPS games like to run at massive framerates. Counterstrike and Quake Live best two examples, the latter people typically aim to run at 250FPS.
Theblacksheep Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Hopefully it'll turn up today, keep the GF entertained while I'm playing Destiny.
CAM Posted November 18, 2014 Author Posted November 18, 2014 My personal observations: Below 30FPS: Stutter. Just about playable sliding down to barely playable near 0 (I used to play CS 1.6 on 4-8FPS!) ~30FPS: Smooth but detail on moving objects become harder to track due to a slight blurring effect. This effect becomes less noticeable as you progress to 60FPS. Spikes will take you below 30FPS into barely playable territory. ~60FPS: Smooth, ideal framerate. Everything is clear, feels less weighty and blurring effect is practically gone allowing you to better track objects and see detail on them at speed. It just feels right! Spikes should drop you to ~30FPS making it still playable. ~120FPS: Smoothness feels increased as you reach this mark. Overkill for most people. Necessary for 3D Vision (never tried it!). Spikes will have almost no effect as they likely drop to a high framerate anyway.
LosOjos Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 You should probably consider a g-sync monitor then.. also, you're wrong. I'm considering one next time I spend some money on my PC, but I mostly play on the TV since I built a "Steambox" (Windows based) There's a few good reasons why many fast FPS games like to run at massive framerates. Such as? (not being arsey, I genuinely don't understand why)

I can understand the logic behind aiming for 60FPS average so that spikes don't kill the game though
CAM Posted November 18, 2014 Author Posted November 18, 2014 I personally find I can pick up the leftover frames at 30FPS causing the slight blur. Update rate is double at 60FPS so I don't notice it as much and my eyes keep up better. Try it and pay very careful attention to movement. I also detest jaggies so Anti-Aliasing always on doesn't help either!
