localzuk Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Fun. Firefly viewers are mostly male, 25-39, social grade C3DE, almost as left wing as you can get, work in IT and have hardly any disposable income. Sounds about right! lol Oh, and they most likely have cats as pets.

Firefly viewers are mostly male, 25-39, social grade C3DE, almost as left wing as you can get, work in IT and have hardly any disposable income. Sounds about right! lol Oh, and they most likely have cats as pets. I call BS. Are Babylon 5 viewers really so different to Firefly viewers? (male, 40-59, C2DE, uber-Right wing). What if you're a fan of both shows, like me? Looks like Star Trek viewers are the same only they've traded their BNP memberships for UKIP. Mmmm.
localzuk Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Yeah, Babylon 5 viewers really are different... Also, yeah, I would agree that they're generally older than Firefly viewers too. Dunno, everyone I know who watched that show is a decade older than I am. Sample size for Babylon 5 is about 30% lower though mind. So, more room for error.
tmcd35 Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Certainly is an interesting distraction. Apparently R.E.M. fans, like, er, me, are reaching for their pension books and playing scrabble!?! On the other hand Nirvana pretty much nailed me - other than cats, I hate cats!
synaesthesia Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Interesting data. For instance Apple fans think they're clever yet also admit to buying things they don't need, have too much money to spend and are insecure.
tmcd35 Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Apparently 2,343 people like Michael Gove - who knew?
localzuk Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Only 70 fans of the amazing band Tool! They're basically all Welsh BNP supporters too. Hmm... Makes me an anomaly. David Cameron's fans are mostly rich business men, living in the South East, with extreme right wing views and over the age of 60. Nigel Farage basically the same, but with more of a fan of engineering and military, and more working class than upper class (yet still rich).
JRowley Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Formula 1 fans are 60+, from the North East and have £125 - £500 spare cash per month. This is what happens when you sample a mere 566 people, nonsense.

LosOjos Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Bear in mind, it's only based on people who take YouGov polls, and according to YouGov's profiler, "People who like YouGov Polls" are center right, 60+ males from the North East 2

This is what happens when you sample a mere 566 people, nonsense. Statistically, 566 people is a significant number. Put it this way, for a population of 63 million people, you need only 384 people with a confidence level of 95%, and a +/-5% margin of error/confidence interval. To increase that to 99% confidence with a +/-5% confidence interval, you'd need a few more people at 666.

Subaru being the top answer. Most likely car - any guesses? Jaguar... Just me that thinks that doesn't quite add up? Also they'd shop at Iceland :S
Seb1780 Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Not surprised that Suffolk folk are defined as retired Tory Grande Dames who keep cats, watch birds, shop at Waitrose and read the Telegraph. ROFL at the fact that Ipswich Town FC are defined as a "niche interest"
tmcd35 Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 HA! Norfolk: niche interest.... ....Suffolk!
Seb1780 Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 HA! Norfolk: niche interest.... ....Suffolk! You must find us fascinating
LosOjos Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 People with an interest in Wolverhampton - apparently their niche interest is Wolverhampton Wanderers Also, they're writers, vide gamers, loaded (>£1000 spare cash) - not the same Wolverhampton I grew up in!

I would agree if the sample was evenly distributed throughout all areas of the country and all age groups. But as it stands these statistics are not gathered in that way. You have to sign up yourself and then they send you surveys for you to fill in. So unless you go out of your way to contribute you aren't considered. So this is the demographics based upon those people who actively participate in surveys, not demographics based on the entire population of the UK. Two completely different samples, which do not necessarily have any similarities and cannot be said to be representative of the entire population.
Bompalompalomp Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 (edited) People with an interest in Wolverhampton - apparently their niche interest is Wolverhampton Wanderers Also, they're writers, vide gamers, loaded (>£1000 spare cash) - not the same Wolverhampton I grew up in! Not the same one I'm in right now either. Says far left, even though UKIP and labour were the big competition in the last election. Also with the loaded, I don't know a single person who doesn't live in the nicest areas of Penn that fits that. And I suspect the profession Entertainment being so high and some other professions I don't see much there are from students studying those things. And lower/working class being very low? PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFT Edit: One Direction would also be one of the top artists too I'd have though since one of them is from here. Edited November 18, 2014 by Bompalompalomp
