Remote access programs

After just spending 40mins trying to sort my mums laptop out over the phone, are there any free remote access programs I can use so I can just log in remotely and fix it using a remote desktop. Used to use Logmein untill it became a paid version (you can tell whats comming next) for the times I would need it, would be good if it was free to use. This only for personal use and not for paid work etc.

Second vote for TeamViewer. About a month ago I used TeamViewer 9 to sort a printing problem on an Apple from my PC for my niece. Worked very well: Cross platform too.

Windows remote assistance?

Quite handy as you don’t have to talk someone through installing some third party program.

Ammyy is pretty good, used it several times

 

Mesh Central is also very good, but you have to install it.

if its just for your mum Google chrome has remote access and is very good. Even has unattended mode for servers etc

EDIT - nothing to really install etc so non techs can install and use.

I think you still need to install Chrome Remote Desktop Host (to go with the extension) to be able to access computers remotely without requiring users to do anything the other end.

Yes and no. Normal home users would not want to have unattended mode anyway and the last time I tested unattended mode it installed everything automatically after I ticked a box to use unattended mode.

Another option would be Google Hangouts, Not much needed by the end user to get up and running.

 

EDIT: and you can video chat at the same time.

Teamviewer and setup unattended host so you can just right click and connect in future.

I use the Google Chrome Remote Desktop app to access my PC at home, its free and works very well, I used to use logmein before they went pay full time.

teamviewer it really is hard to beat and definatlly do this bit " setup unattended host " its great

MeshCentral looks really good wish I could get this to work as it would be perfect for our needs... Its a bit of a monster though... works one minute and then not the next!
