a couple from my trip to the Highland Wildlife Park last week.

My first time seeing a Wolverine. Such glossy fur, and one in particular was acting like a very mischievous Kitten!

And one of the giant Amur tigers

Hey folks. Anyone else here do any video work or just still photography?

I recently upgraded my phone to a Pixel 2 XL and the stills and video quality is surprisingly ace so i decided to grab myself a 3 Axis stabilizing gimbal as well. Plan is to try and develop some video skills, mainly for my youtubes.

Yeh, i'm looking to get in to video, hopefully doing a promo video for a wedding venue down the road. I 've just got a fluid head for my tripod and a slider.. i'm going to use my D750 for video, that and my Mavic Pro. I need to do my commercial licence.

What gimbal did you get? DJI osmo?

mmmmmmm drone :eyebrows: That's the next thing on my list. Looking at the Mavic Air (although apparently the Pro 2 is just around the corner!).

I did look at the Osmo but the Zhiyun Smooth Q was a fair bit cheaper and had pretty decent reviews so went with that. Cost me £98. Only had a quick play but seems decent actually. My plan is to do a little youtube review at some point.

@MrMat, be interested to see how you get on with the Zhiyun. Yep, there are rumours about a Pro 2 but nothing concrete at the moment, there was a load of rumour videos on Youtube that got quashed has fake. I got my Mavic off Ebay second hand with fly more pack and other bits for £700. Doing the licence is 1K plus though but i'll need to do that to if i want do get in to it properly!

Ohh that's a good price! How you getting on with it? I'm dead exciting to get one but also terrified i'm going to bin it into a wall or something!

Yeah i had a read about the license/permissions for Drones and was really surprised at how involved it is. I assumed it'd be a half arsed online e-learning jobby or something.

I'll post up the review when i've had a proper chance to play with it :). I did do a quick unboxing (warning it's not a great vid. 20 minute jobby on my lunch break):

Getting on well, i've got loads of fields around me to I've been practicing there, they are dead easy to fly but quite involved to get setup to your liking. Also you need to practice to get good "cinematic type" video. i've only had it a few weeks so lots to learn and get used too.

I had a couple of cheap drones and if you can fly those then these are a doddle, i'm more concerned about it "flying away" due to compass errors or something but if your sensible I think its fine. What's surprised me is a lot of the videos you see on youtube are all illegal flying! higher than 120m and further than 500m out!

Depends on the country surely

Depends on the country surely

'Line of sight' is much much standard everywhere. You must maintain line of sight with the drone at all times which many people ignore.

Here in the UK it's:

The aircraft must be kept within the visual line of sight (normally taken to be within 500 m horizontally and 400 ft vertically) of its remote pilot (i.e. the ‘person in charge’ of it).

The aircraft must not be flown:

  • over or within 150 metres of any congested area
  • over or within 150 metres of an organised open-air assembly of more than 1,000 persons;
  • within 50 metres of any vessel, vehicle or structure which is not under the control of the person in charge of the aircraft
  • within 50 metres of any person except during take-off or landing, the aircraft must not be flown within 30 metres of any person except for the person in charge of the aircraft.

it does, but most countries now have regulations in place, some of the videos out there are people "range testing" and 4 miles away! at 500m it can be tricky enought to spot

So the Zhiyun is really good! Had a proper play over the weekend and i'm impressed. It has it's oddities, sometimes it'll get confused and spin around etc but overall it's great.

Made one vid for instagram (so quality bit ropey)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FgvLpM2ysk

and then another in 4k with the dog (still getting used to editing so again, bit ropey in places.)

Note: Is it okay to talk video in this thread or should we do a videographers thread?
