jamin100 Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 I've been using Evernote for years but I increasingly find the IOS app poorly laid out The web or PC/Mac client is great just the mobile app that lets it down. So I was thinking about using one note instead. What do you all use for quick note taking ?
SYNACK Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 OneNote plus Onedrive gives me decent apps and a web editor if needed, I still have an evernote account but I don't use it as much as OneNote.
originofsymmetry Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 OneNote isn't much better on iPhone in terms of layout, but I'm yet to see a note taker with such functionality be easy to navigate on a small screen, it's a lot better on the iPad. Overall I'm using OneNote now as overall the apps suit me better than Evernote.
fiendishlyclever Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 If you only use for note taking there isn't much difference. If you connect to other services, eg IFTTT.com then Evernote is a clear winner for features (although I have over a Tb in my onedrive, wonder how much I could stuff into Onenote before it explodes in a shower of sparks)
Kitkatninja Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 My whole team uses Onenote, it's a great app. We use it on the iPhone, ipad, PC and laptop with little problems
Devontechie Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 I use onenote on my galaxy s5, pc and laptop linked to OneDrive as well...
Marshall_IT Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 I use Evernote, never tried OneNote but feel i should try it as i get it free. I do like the 2 factor Authentication on Evernote though.
mrdolan Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 I use Evernote and I think the Android client is much better than the iPhone client and has improved a lot recently. I think they have different development teams for each platform, so there is often a difference in design and function between the apps.
Sylv3r Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 I've always used Evernote as i've never really looked at OneNote although the number of people recommending it on here makes me think I need to give it a go.
sparkeh Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Just switched to Onenote after years of using Evernote and I love it! I lay things out in tables a lot and the table support in Evernote is terrible (apart from the Mac version which seems to have had a lot more development). For me Onenote is a lot easier to use and lay things out how you want them. My only gripe is that you can't open password protected sections in the Onenote Andriod app but I usually have my iPad to hand anyway.
Quackers Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 I switched from Evernote to Onenote this year once Microsoft released the Mac Client, i much prefer the layout i love the coloured tabs.
rich_tech Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 I started to use Onenote as a departmental documentation platform a while back and keep adding to it as you go along when time permits, I prefer it to Evernote having played with both, it just integrates and shares very well by comparison with the diff platforms notably onedrive and web editing make it workable on my chromebook when I want to plug away at home with it.
tj2419 Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 For me it has to be Evernote. The way you can clip pages from chrome or safari etc into a notebook, it ties in with more apps and has a nice widget on the iPhone version. Evernote all the way.
detjo Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 @tj2419 - you can do all that in onenote. And it's on iOS too 😀
tj2419 Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Ha fair enough must have changed a lot since I last used it. Might have another look. Cheers
jamesb Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 I use evernote myself, but that's mainly because I tie in to IFTTT for all sorts of pointless but fun things.
GrumbleDook Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 I use both. OneNote for team note taking, organising materials, etc Evernote for attached of scanned notes (I heavily use the EverNote stickers), linking to IFTTT and a few other bits. I try to keep all of one project or work stream on the service, and OneNote gives me good control over where notes are stored to collaborate on.
