kcalderw Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Hi all, we are mostly a Mac school here but all our admins are on PCs. I purchased a few new PCs that I'd like to image. What free tool out there are you using that will just let me image one then push it out to the others?
cscc Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 (edited) Do you have any Windows Servers? If so the WDS/MDT route is free and fairly simply to setup. If not something like Clonezilla to capture the disk image after the sysprep phase. +1 for Fog, although can be temperamental with certain hardware. Edited October 23, 2014 by cscc
kcalderw Posted October 23, 2014 Author Posted October 23, 2014 (edited) I could install it on the VM. At this point I've already setup 4 manually and have 3 more to go, so it really is not a lot. Edit: Can you install Fog on a mac? I have an older xserve I can use. Edited October 23, 2014 by kcalderw
cscc Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Only works on Linux AFAIK, you could always run a VM instance on your Mac using VirtualBox or similar.
Norphy Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 If you don't want to go the whole server/client route, you can download the Windows ADK which includes ImageX, a utility which can create images of hard disks and deploy them to other machines.
plexer Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Rather than imaging them why not use a base set of install files a quick and easy way to set this up is to use PXE Server for Windows - Serva Ben
Mullaney18 Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 +1 for clonezilla Boot from memory stick and clone to a usb hdd / nas space. It runs from RAM so can acheive a image of a 500GB hdd in 20 + minutes (sata + usb speeds depending)
IAMCloud_Curt Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 Would defiantly recommend WDS route. Will assist you if you need help with VM on a MAC and getting WDS setup.
Phildw Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 I use Macrium Reflect. Pretty easy to use and never had any issues wuth it.
DCUK6 Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 wds and mdt Once its setup its so easy. I have everything automated now . I click a few buttons, enter my password. Make a cup of tea whilst it finishes. Tend not to even go back these days to check it. Automated Reference Image Creation in MDT - Part 1
