Garacesh Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Friend of mine in the States mentioned these to me last night. For $20 a month (Works out at around £18.50 including shipping for UK residents) she receives a monthly package of nerdy items. Her box this month included a Han Solo frozen in carbonite poster and Firefly cash (Galactic theme) I'm going to be signing up for these, looks pretty interesting! Thought fellow EduGeeks might appreciate it Loot Crate - Monthly Geek and Gamer Subscription Box
localzuk Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 How odd! I just last night signed up to that - it'll be like being given a present every month. If you do sign up, you could go via my link here and it'll save me a couple of bucks Loot Crate - Monthly Geek and Gamer Subscription Box
featured_spectre Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 I decided I will stop receiving them when customs stopped one of them because of a bottle opener which they deemed to be a weapon.

Oaktech Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 You guys have £18.50 a month to waste on this stuff?
localzuk Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 You guys have £18.50 a month to waste on this stuff? Do you not spend anything each month on fun things? No movies, no posters, no entertainment or decorating stuff?
Oaktech Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Not really no... My most frivolous purchase last month was a fiver on 3 blocks of artisan cheese from the last local farmers market. I can't remember the last time I went to the cinema, the last time I rented a movie it was from blockbuster, I last bought a CD in march (birthday money), I last downloaded a track from seven digital in june. I'm pretty dull with my money because I have a substantial mortgage and a car to run.
Garacesh Posted September 24, 2014 Author Posted September 24, 2014 Do you not spend anything each month on fun things? No movies, no posters, no entertainment or decorating stuff?I took it that @Oaktech was more astounded that we have disposable cash rather than what we're spending it on
localzuk Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 I suppose it depends on your life really! I don't have a car and live in a cheap house. I have no dependants etc... So, I have a reasonable amount of money to spend on fun things.
JJonas Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 I use things like the cost of living increase to pay for this, its not money I've been used to having before so I don't miss it. Plus the family enjoys taking part in the unboxing process.
spookyspoof Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 going to treat myself after a rough year..... but how come I can't get the $20 deal? for six months its telling me its $27 per month???
featured_spectre Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 postage and packaging for the UK my friend, which is what bumps the price up.
pcstru Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 I'd describe it as frittering money away. Then again some of the stuff I buy ...
