Personal Laptop Recommendations

Hi all.

 

Our head has brought her laptop for us to look at. (Dell 1764) it wont power on now. (just battery light flashing)

 

What laptop would you recommend under the £500 (this is for home use)

Speak to ICT direct - they'll set you up with a high spec refurb which will be better value than a brand new lower spec PC.

Have you tried to mend the Dell though? The usual stuff - take the battery out, hold the power button in, that sort of thing?

I like Toshiba laptops , had one for ages never had a problem . Depends what the requirements are of course. If just for general use then I reckon a Toshiba would do the trick.

yep done the normal trick. Left the battery out overnight. Do they do personal orders?

Personal but not for home? So is the school buying it, is she buying it for work?

 

I'd say best value at the moment is this Lenovo Thinkpad, last-gen Core i3 (for what difference that makes) but only £320 inc VAT with bag and mouse included. I have never seen a proper ThinkPad with a proper CPU that cheap before. Stick a 256GB Crucial MX100 SSD in it (£75 inc VAT) and it'll fly. 2GB RAM could be better, but it easy 'n' cheap to upgrade and sufficient for Office and internet anyway.

My home laptop is from them and my son has just bought a tasty laptop with SSD for a really good price

chargers fine. Tested on a working laptop.

 

Sounds like a fault with the mainboard of the laptop...

I will when she is ready to buy. I think she will be after an i3/5 with 8gb of ram and lots of space.
