Dos_Box Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 I'd put this in the 'Annoying things you did thread' but it didn't quite seem to fit as they are things that happended to me. So, let's begin: My 'new' laptop now looks old: I got a new Dell XPS 15 last summer all in brushed aluminium and shiney screen, but the other day I noticed that it was no longer shiney. Even when cleaned it seems to have lost the gleam from the case and screen. Dust now seems to be attracted to it in a way seeminly impossible when new. To top it off it looks like Dell have finished releasing new BIOS updates and drivers for it. It's still a beast (i7) but just looks old now, McDonalds: We went out over the weekend and on the way back, as teh kids had been so good and it was tea time we decided to cave to their demands for food now and treat them. My wife and daughter had Fillet-o-Fish's and may son and I had the latest burgers on promotion the 'Big Tasty'. And very nice it was too. When tidying the table I saw that McDonalds now put the calorie count on the side of the food packaging, and I saw that my Big Tasty came in at 881 calories!! My 8 year old boy had one! Including his drink and fries it was his entire daily calorie allowance. We won't be doing Maccy D's for quite some time we've decided. Cadbury 'Boost' bar: I meant to get a KitKat from the vending machine here in the offices but pressed the wrong letter and got a Boost instead. It had been sat in my desk for about a week or so before I decided to have it yesterday. Within 5 mins I was feeling quite ill. Very sickly to eat and left me feeling off all afternoon Commuter cars: Now the schools are back the roads are once more full of lunatics making my cycle into work hell once more. STOP CUTTING ME UP ON ROUNDABOUTS AND JUNCTIONS! DO NOT OVERTAKE ME TO IMMEDIATLY TURN LEFT! September: I have 5 birthdays, schools dinners and Brownie subs all to pay out for. My wife had to pay out lots for other school and activity stuff as well. And relax!
GrumbleDook Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Little one has started school so the pre-school fees are gone ... to be replaced by uniform, after school care, replacement sewing machine (previous died sorting out uniform), MOT and car repairs, dance lesson subs, soft play subs and missing out on a deal for a decent exercise bike as we would have run out of cash for the month!

Right, thinks I, would love to pay monthly by direct debit. No says DVLA, direct debit option only available for renewals from November 1!!! Got to buy another 6mths/1yr before I can go over to the monthly DD system. Arrggghhhh!!!!!

plexer Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Indeed, eldest 2 go to the same one and youngest will be starting rainbows as soon as we get the details of local groups as things have changed since the other 2 went. Middle child also does Jujitsu on a Weds evening and various other after school activities for the eldest two as well it all adds up. Ben

Now I understand the reasons for a uniform; corporate ID, no one looks poor, mind control, etc, but the cost!! Instead of Black or Navy 20" skirt (Asda £5) it is "available from these stockists £17" Almost all of it is the same, fancy PE kit, expensive blazer, black tights (fer crying out loud, they are 11, how long do you think those will last?) We're not poor, but d@mned if we are wasting money on clothes they will have grown out of by xmas. /rant They came back last Friday; "There's a skiing trip, can we go?" £800; each; no. I have 2 at uni this year.... the days of Brownies, Cubs, Dance and Football seem long ago and very cheap And I used to run the Guide unit. All that money doesn't go in the leaders pockets. It's a voluntary role. 1
