featured_spectre Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Hi peoples I have been asked by my boss to put together a PC good enough to run our environment should the worst happen and our host have a hardware failure. I should just add that at the moment we aren't running or virtual servers in the best practice environment. We essentially have all our eggs in one basket. Having said that, the hardware is very new. What I want is a PC fairly easy to transport, with a decent enough spec to just restore a backup (veeam) and swap into our environment if the worst should happen. Now we spent a lot of money on our host, so obviously we wouldn't experience similar speeds. Please could you help me put together a spec that would be feasible for this. There are a couple of proviso's. Budget: Hopefully this build will cost around the £1500 > £2000 mark. RAM: It must have 64GB of usable ram. STORAGE: It must have at least 2TB. pete Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 "Host" singular? *winces* I concur with the underpanted feline, buy a HP that'll run the environment sufficiently well for disaster recovery purposes while you wait on a supplier to drop ship a replacement for the main host. DR isn't an area where you want to build it yourself - too much chance of a RGE. If you gave some figures as to what you're running (number of VMs, type of workload) you'll get better advice.

3s-gtech Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 @ICTDirect_Dave specced us up some truly ludicrous servers for VM use. You'll get some lovely redundancy features like dual PSUs etc, should be within your budget. They'll be rack mount, but they're not especially awkward to fit, especially 1 or 2U. 2
