Polish Poitr's Car Wash

I just took our extremely dirty minibus to the local carwash operated by a gang of Polish guys. It had green algae around the seals and engrained pigeon poo and worse. It's a hi-top, Lord knows what the roof was like! Anyway, I took it in a lunchtime and they said come back at 2pm. I got back at 1.45pm and it was ready and waiting, looking pristine inside and out. They had even hung an air-freshener from the mirror. All for £35.

Some of these places are great. The one near us you get 6 people cleaning the car at once!

Yeah theres a place in town here that used to be a petrol station you just pull in leave your car (with keys) there and a few hours later its like new all for £20. Plus you get "free" parking for shopping/cinema/food.

You know you hear of all the expensive cars being nicked and shipped out to Albania etc. I'm really surprised the thieves haven't opened up car washes, temp site bit of hoarding wait until you get an "ordered" car in then whack it in the back of a lorry or whatever and clear your kit up to the next location. Lot easier than breaking into peoples houses for the keys.

 

Maybe I just missed out on being a criminal mastermind.....

We've got 4 run but different groups in town here, one of the washes has opened up a branch and they do a cracking job, although I only ever get a outside wash or if it needs it inside and out but takes them 15 minutes and I stay with the car. I used to do it myself but with limited time at the minute they get my business and do a good job.

 

One of the places got busted a few years ago as they were selling stuff from their converted petrol station, most of which was nicked from house burglaries!!

Chances are though you'll be cleaning 12 year old Mondeos for 10 days before anything 'nice' comes in.

I cant see anyone wanting to nick my 10 year old Vectra either, I have used a few of them around the town here, always an excellent job on the car to be fair

As for waiting awhile depends where you setup I suppose ;-)

We have a set up that used to try conning us and try charging our Picasso as a 4x4.

 

Now we HAVE a 4x4 they wont do it - "it too big - no lad for ruf"

(I think he means no ladders for the roof)

I take mine to one in Wolverton that does a brilliant job. Inside and out, leaves the car pristine and all for £15.

I'm always leery of ANY service where I have to leave my car keys with someone. I have HEARD that if something happens to your car, you gave them the keys so your insurance policy doesn't cover it and how many places hand you a copy of their liability insurance? I don't even use valet parking. I hate it. Maybe I'm a control freak but I don't trust how other people drive and park. I'd much rather take my car through a 'chain' car wash (like the ARC ones) as I know there is a company behind them I can direct legal issues to if their equipment wrecks my vehicle by doing non-standard things. As for the inside, well, LeBoyfriend works for a Ford franchise and when their valet owes him a favour he'll take my car to work and I'll get a wash and vac. Keeps it in good nick. If I want it sparkling I'll do it myself.
