Havent deployed it as such but have been installing it on all new images and so 75% of the school probably has it by now

 

No problems so far apart from staff not being able to find the favourites icon and a few issues with the pop up blocker which I need to get round to hopefully sorting with the IE7 adm

Same here - if you are not living on the edge then you are taking up too much room!

Pushed it out as soon as it came up on WSUS. Had been using it myself whilst it was beta.

 

Never had a moments problem with it across any of the 180 School PCs we have.

Used it from the day of release, hate tabs but they get turned off by my GP and can't say I've had any issues except with Smoothwall once but that was smooties fault.

 

Use firefox too but only as a browser without a proxy.

We rolled it out a while ago but we've also had to roll out firefox as well due to cerrtain websites or web based applications not functioning in IE7. I stick to firefox at home.

and mrbusy-2 mentioned "a lot of issues with IE7 and flash, certain websites crash ie7 "

can you both give some examples of these websites please?

It does not work on windows 2000 + Firefox rock can't live with out it.

We rolled out IE7 and we had some proxy issues with the way IE7 now enumerates the bypass list. If it's not completely happy with what you have entered it wont apply the proxy settings at all.

We deployed IE7 almost as soon as it came out. Infact, now I integrate it into our XP images. I have included the tweaks I use in the images as well, but before this I was applying tweaks using a registry file:

Removes Live Search from the search bar.

Adds Google Search to the search bar, makes it default.

Makes Google the default search throughout IE.

Moves the Menu Bar (File, Edit etc) to the top of IE (Like previous versions)

Adds Address Bar searches for Google (g

If you want to deploy via group policy and be able to configure practically everything in the initial MSI there is now a Internet Explorer 7 Administration Kit that will let you build a custom MSI, configure all the defaults and settings and add things like search providers all through a nice GUI.

 

Used it at a couple of places that I work to deploy a bunch of custom settings and push it to the machines that were previously prevented from updating to it. Works well in my experience.

Why, does your school ban the use of Firefox? We just have it deployed along with IE7 to all of the computers and the users can make up their own mind which one to use.

My work has rolled out IE 7 across the whole workstation network, don't know about servers.

 

I am running IE8 beta on my machine, though. None of the internal systems seem to be affected but some secure sites, i.e. internet banking kick you out when using IE8. Fortunately, there is an IE7 compat mode.

 

I use IE 7 at home but when I connect to the work exchange server it crashes when I hit the send button!

Although it is slower IMO. I don't tend to use it so much myself...

I am running IE8 on 420 computers throughout my school network, no issues yet. Compatibility mode sorts all the problems.
