joesheehan7221 Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 Hi Everyone We have bought a Win8 tablet as a test, but have been delighted with the news that every new user who logs on (domain accounts) get greeted with the fist sign in animation. Is there a GPO I can create/modify in order to disable this? Initial research suggests I should disable"show first sign-in animation" but this doesn't appear as an option for me... Any feedback is gratefully received! Thanks Joe
FN-GM Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 Have you imported the Windows 8 / 8.1 ADMX templates? If not that will explain why you can't see the option. To populate the ADMX files copy %systemroot%\PolicyDefinitions from a Windows 8 / 8.1 machine to %domain%\sysvol\%userdnsdomain%\policies\PolicyDefinitions\. You may need to create the PolicyDefinitions folder.
Norphy Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 Assuming that your running a domain on at least Windows 2008, you need to create a central admx repository and copy the policydefinitions folder from your Windows 8 tablet to it. Either that or install RSAT on your tablet and edit the GPO from there. The relevant setting will appear. Bear in mind that while the animation is playing, Windows is also setting up and installing the Metro apps for that user. If you turn the first run animation off, your users will just see 'please wait' for an indeterminate amount of time. The amount of time can be reduced by removing pre-provisioned appx packages.

Ours logs on in the same amount of time by creating a Default profile or using a Mandatory profile.
jaminben Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 (edited) @FN-GM how do you create a default profile? Not seen this before. Edit No matter... I see what you mean now. Edited May 8, 2014 by jaminben
