Transfer .sch.uk domain to another host

Hi,

 

Wondering if anyone has done this.....

 

 

 

We have an LA issued domain name .sch.uk that I want to transfer to another nameserver (1 and 1) and change the IPS TAG.

 

We are the registered owners according to Nominet.

 

The LA dept are willing to release the domain. 1 and 1 are telling me they can't host that domain extension (typical, why they won't I don't know)

 

Anyone moved a similar type of domain name to non LA host ?

 

If so, to who ?

We use dnsexit, it's free and has worked great for us for 10+ years.

 

Edit: Just to clarify, we just use them for dns, we host our own web servers.

We've moved our .sch.uk to vidahosts who charged us a £5 fee to be registrar, and then give us dns management for free forever. We host the site internally.

We've got a domain registered with 1&1 too. I got fed up arguing with LEA, new ISP and 1&1 about the hosting of our .sch.uk DNS records - so I decided to host my own DNS server. Updated Nominet to point to our own host, all problems suddenly disappeared. I now have 100% full control and can change an adapt on the fly. Only issue I came across was our Exchange server requiring a reverse lookup entry which I couldn't host locally due to the subnet provision of our ISP. Thankfully our ISP agreed to host the reverse DNS entry, so all is good.

I would avoid the 1 & 1 DNS service, I have heard scary stories over the years tbh.

Consider Home | CloudFlare | The web performance & security company for DNS hosting, it allows other features but it has one of the fastest DNS systems on the go and its free. You can also turn on the DDOS protection if you need later too.

 

 

1&1 DNS is pretty horrible. They've updated the front end for thwir domain management recently.. but it still doesn't work :director:

We moved and went O365 for our email at the same time. Go-Daddy were suprisingly easy. DNS records updated in minutes. Avoid 1-2-1, A local school had to move from them to Go-Daddy because they couldn't access the DNS resords. That's why we went Go_daddy off the bat.

Vida (now TSO) Host who charge a fiver to do the transfer and then free forever - Our renewal date is 01/01/2200. We've just moved another pair of domains to them - a .co.uk and a .net and they've agreed to DNS manage those for free too, all we have to do is pay the 9.99 and 4.99 domain namerenewal fees when they come up some when next year. The whole lot was done in about 40 minutes. They've just been so utterly hassle free. Edited by elsiegee40

On of our local authorities are playing hardball claiming that its their TLD and they cant release it - if they continue is this something i can just contest with nominet to get it released?

It's your domain. It's tied to your DFE number. You need to to point them to this https://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/nominet-prod/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/27104952/Schools_Domain_Name_Rules.pdf

 

You can contest it with nominet, or you could just register a new one - you would have to forfeit your old one, but it may be easier!

its only to make sure we dont miss key emails after taking over a number of schools since the authority is still sending key information to the old addresses...

I want to move our domain from LCC to Krystal. Has anyone done similar recently and had any resistance?

Had no problems, just had to setup an account and open a support ticket. Once the support agent gave me the details I went into our tsoHost client area and started the transfer. Took barely any time at all.
