Connected my laptop up to the TV yesterday (Panasonic), played a movie fine. Tried today, no sound is coming out over the TV. Seriously WTF, it's driving me nuts, same TV, same HDMI cable. Tried other (smaller) tv and it works ok. Any ideas?!? Laptop isn't on internet, so not like a driver has updated or such.

I used to have that issue on my uncles laptop. It was very intermittent . Its due to HDMI port is dodgy on the laptop.

Worth Buying High Quality HDMI cable as well.

Yer, checked it set to go over HDMI. Still nothing, changed to speakers and it works. Me things the TV is dieing as it happens with their dvd player. Me things I'm gonna be poking them to get a new tv.

What gpu chip, there is yet another firmware stuff up with the 4400 and 4600 on several motherboards - gigabyte- which breaks audio over hdmi more often than not without very specific drivers which bring the success rate up to about three in four. I have a motherboard that is affected, neither intel nor gigabyte seem to care.

Does all audio not work? your TV may not support DTS and or DD so they play without sound (Movies) but windows should be ok. You can do the speaker test which will let you select the bitrate of the digital audio (PCM) going to the TV. try the old 44Khz16bit first.

also try the xbmc player it's very good at hdmi things...
