Hi,

We currently have AB Tutor and Impero for classroom management and also logging activity.

AB Tutor was uninstalled because it stores the log files on the computers so if you want to find out what a user has been on you have to go and switch on all the machines.

We wont be continuing the Impero licence because of their prices. Sorry Russ, impero have tried but spending over a grand a year isnt a option and Impero want more than double that.

Is there another bit of software that has remote logging abilities and has licensing model like AB Tutor, one of payment with free upgrades and support for the purchased version e.g. V6?

Many thanks

While we are currently am impero school as well, I feel your pain on the price. We have been looking into lanschool... I think logging works the way you want in that. Price is a third

Just running a trial version of LanSchool.

From what i can see its pretty much the same as impero. As soon as the computer is turned off you cant see websites they have accessed.

We are with Impero, we have have tried several others AB Tutor, Netsupport and none deliver anywhere near what Impero does. I feel the pain on the price but sometimes you only get what you pay for and we are using so much of Impero that we are seeing savings in Time and that equates to saving money. the plus+ things for us are

1. It works really well (most of the time)

2. It has the widest amount of features

3. support is really good (in our experience)

4. there seems to be a development road map

the down side:

1. Price

2. Price

3. Price

4. You guessed it Price

*Do I get a discount for shameless promnotion??

Yes a dev roadmap I spent the last week doing QA timescales for it :). As for price that one got to try and bribe one of sales staff they don't like QA as we hold up releases so if I asked probably add more money instead of a discount ;)

Can't you log the websites that people visit at your firewall?

We've used Impero for a few years now, and I've got to say I love it (price aside), the main reason initially was for the e-safety side of it, but we use most of the features pretty heavily...

The after-sales support we've had from them has been exceptional too... they're always happy to remote in to resolve issues (not that we've had many)...

I do think they need to be kept on their toes re. the prices though, they've increased quite a lot since we got it :( having said that, if I was looking for products that cover everything we use Impero for now, I'd still choose Impero... If you do use a lot of the features, it's pretty justifiable... in my humble opinion obviously!! :)

You can pull users' web history either via a script (there's an ancient one posted on here which still works) or by pulling the information out of the session IE history using an application that interfaces with it (we built one in .NET). The history is logged per user and is stored on a central server.
