OK, we are running a little late in announcing this year’s conference, which is entirely our own fault given recent exhibitions we have had to attend and technical issues (not of our own making) we have had to deal with so this announcement is a week or so delayed, for which I can only apologise.

Given the amount of members asking us about the conf in recent weeks we felt we had to let you all know soonest.

Right, the important information.

Date: Thursday 29th May

Location: Preston Grasshoppers Rugby Club (same as last year)

Cost: Free!

Please find below an idea of some of the sessions to be delivered (please note not everyone has confirmed with us yet and we still have a few other ideas for speakers we are chasing up!)

  • Network storage and backup technologies From EMC accredited partner Stack
  • Raspberry Pi and the New Curriculum
  • 802.11ac Wireless Technologies – Meru
  • Minecraft Edu
  • Enterprise Virtualisation

We do have a slot or two spare, so if you can think of any other subjects you’d like us to get someone in to speak about please let us know and we shall do our best to get an expert in to cover it.

We shall be getting the booking system live in the very near future, so please keep an eye out on the homepage, in the meantime if you could please fill out the poll to give us an idea of how many are interested in coming that would be very helpful.

We are planning to host other events in other locations later in the year, but please bear with us as so far this year we have had BETT, Education Innovation then our conference followed by ISTE in the US in June. All of this take a huge amount of organising so please let us deal with one event at a time and we’ll let you know when and where the next ones will be soon enough.

Hi guys,

If you could fill in the poll on here it will be very helpful as we do need to get in draft numbers to book catering etc. also, if you can think of any topics you'd like to see covered now is the time to speak up!

Because thats where @Dos_Box lives! And I like it coz it's about 2 miles from my house too! :)

There's a good and reasonably priced hotel nearby, with a good pub attached. Come up the night before, get drunk with us then head home after the conf :)

Why so high up :(

We are actively looking at other venues further south to run events later in the year (Bristol and London are looking favorite), but Preston has traditionally been the place we have held the conf. There are two main reasons for this:

1. Preston is halfway up the country (not high up) and on a major motorway and rail line so is better for those in both the north and south and......

2. I live here which makes it easier to organise. Hosting events further away brings in a whole batch of problems that you can't forsee or deal with when you are 200 miles away.

When you realise just how exepensive it is to put on an event like this (where we foot the bill) you will know whey we have not, in teh oast, been able to host more than one at a time. The organisation alone chews up a vast chunk of my time in what is a busy period for us anyway.

I'd love to go although it is very far :( Maybe if you guys are a bit closer to Shropshire later on in the year... :)

You live in Shopshire! It's not far at all :)

Ibis Preston is a good hotel, I love their breakfasts. Shall be making my normal May half-term pilgrimage to Preston! :)

I will be unable to come as I will be on holiday this year...

However, is there *any* chance that we could have one conference closer to us in the deep south?

I can't justify dragging my self 2/3 of the way up the country for it. Even birmingham would be preferable. Oxford/Swindon/M4 corridor would be amazing.

It's flaming hours! Plus I'm ginger, a geek and I listen to county music when I'm driving... If I go through Liverpool I'll be stabbed.

Wimp! It's a two and a bit hour drive and you don't go near Liverpool! :p

@Dos_Box what time is it from/to?

I'm looking at a 3-3.5hr journey each way...

We usually start at 09:00 to 17:00 but many people either overnight the night before or the next night (or both) as we take you out and feed you :)

we take you out

Mafia-style?

Not sure if I want to go now... :p

Gonna have a word with the Business manager. I'll report back momentarily [possibly].

Haha!! Close enough, you can throw knives you know.... ;) Plus I don't like driving into Birmingham let alone going up all that way.... Dave you're more than welcome to pick me up and you drive :) Just bring a tank so that I can hide myself from the drive by's! On another note I'm going to p**s off someone in a minute who lives in Liverpool so this is where I stop talking!!!

Hey, i've got a fiesta!

Fiesta's are cool, just don't lower it, put a go faster stripe on the bonnet and a big exhaust and it's all good. Also make sure you don't come out of the door with a flat cap on that still has the golden sticker stuck on the front... ;) It's never a good look!
