Now if they would just hurry up and make SATA 5, PCI-E 4.0 X64 with a 1000 core CPU - we may be able to make some terminators , a T1000 ?? Hopefully not made by Lenovo :p

 

It'd be indestructible! We best hope that Skynet achieves sentience in an Acer factory so we have a chance to fight back (or hide out for a couple of months until they all break of their own accord).

It'd be slightly less dramatic if the war with Skynet was not won with the leadership of John Connor; but simply because some hinges broke, an important plastic blanking plate was not secured with threadlock, and the Atheros wifi was bricked by a dodgy firmware update.

And trying to claim on warranty would take an absolute age by which point you could of destroyed them repeatedly before they get repaired

We're kind of almost there already. :)

 

  • SATA 4 or 5 = 12Gb/s SAS
  • PCIe 4.0 (x64) = 128GB/s (I think the Dell PowerEdge R920 has 10 x PCIe 3.0 x16 slots which add upto 160GB/s)
  • 1,000 Core CPU = 32 x Intel Xeon E7-8890 v2 (960 Cores) or 1 x nVidia GeForce Titan Black (2,880 Cores)

No can do. He might have some luck with a T800, but the T1000 uses a lot a nanotech. In fact all it's processing is done at the cellular level. No wonder the damn things are so hard to kill!

What metal does the T800 use on the walking terminators ? Adamantium lol ( although that is from wolverine so different movie altogether ) lol

Hyper-alloy? I think someone needs to invent it before 2015 / 2026 though. :)

 

Presume its similar process to how they make aircraft grade aluminum but using stainless steel or a stronger metal that is maybe carbonized etc ?

 

For the T-4 - presume you will use a raspberry pi lol

To be honest there's not much need to upgrade more these days, my PC is coming up 5 years old (AMD Phenom II X4 965, Samsung 830 128GB, 4GB RAM) and I bought a new GTX 680 for it for my birthday in October, and I reckon that'll do me for another five years. It takes about that long for graphics cards to get twice as good, and there's not much point in upgrading before that mark.

 

And what with having the GTX 680, the same as your 770 bar a clock bump in your favour, I feel confident in saying it is a very lovely card indeed :) a big improvement over the Crossfired 5770s I had before. What model have you gone for? I am a little bit in love with the Asus DirectCU II cooler on mine, so bloody quiet and shiny looking.

Ensure you have Kleenex to hand when it arrives. Even unboxing it may cause issues with excitement.

 

The 680 was the first top-end card I'd ever bought as well (though it was a generation old when I got it, but still, it was only £240), and hot-damn that thing is big.

Well I have crossfired 5770's at the minute, well, no, thats a lie, one is now unplugged and on its way to my stepdad. The other will be going up for sale (still in very good condition).

Looks like about 40MHz of extra chip speed, and a jump from 6GHz to 7GHz on the memory clock (which will make the bigger difference). And not quite as stupidly gigantic as the 680. Other than that, though, pretty much the same card for an incredible price that will melt your face with the pretty. Congrats ;)
