Even without load it was hitting the high temp (80C) and under full load it hit between 85C and 100C, consistently at the high 80s though, I have since reseated the GPU Heatsink, with arctic silver 5 thermal paste, so now runs nicely at full load sitting at 70C. However it is now being sold to make way for my new GPU :)

That's good that it now sits at 70 Degrees C under load after the cleanup / re-application of thermal paste ( AS 5 ) etc :peace:

@Arthur / @ZeroHour - Moral of the story is, if you want to get a few or more NVidia GTX Titans ( black edition or not ) or even a similar card ie GTX 780 ti etc SLI'ed together - to ensure you have some where very very cold to store the base unit as it will be pumping out at least 80 degrees C per card under full load

 

Failing that have a small room with a very good air con unit just for the base unit and the relevant cabling coming out of the room ie video ( DVI ), audio , keyboard and mouse unless you have wireless / cordless ones ie bluetooth or whatever.

 

In all honesty is not been to much of an issue. I have a 780 gtx and a 580gtx currently and internal temps are okay but my case has decent throughput of air.

 

Re: removing the case sides, that won't help air flow much as you basically stop passive case through put helping move from the card. Sides on and fans will be better.

Can anyone help me out here...I would like the following for under £450 (inc delivery)

The items above come to ~£500 though. :(

Managed to find an OC one on Amazon for £244, and a 850W PSU on Amazon as well for £80. That plus the SSD you found (wahey) keeps me well in budget to get a Zalman gaming mouse (will replace my old one that broke, I loved it!) and an SSD holder :D

The card alone draws 600w. I want something that would handle it and can have some spare.

 

GPU manufacturers always massively overstate power requirements. A system with that specific EVGA card, running Battlefield 4, draws 378W. Even running FurMark, a program AMD have described as "a power virus", the system as a whole tops out at 393W. Even running FurMark and overclocked, it tops out at 408W. A 550W/600W PSU would be fine, I should think.

 

EDIT: beaten to it by Arthur as I did silly things like "dealt with work responsibilities" :doh:

Call me paranoid, but there's a lot of crap PSUs out there: what power supply is it?

 

And also: how recent is your case? It may well have SSD mounting available already.

JonnyGuru likes it, so you're good to go. As far as PSU reviews go, his word is holy.

 

Summary

Great +12V regulation, great ripple suppression, low price and decent looks all come together to make this a great unit. Sure, the marketing on the box insults the intelligence of even the lowest common denominator and the box itself fails to completely protect the PSU within, and the unit isn't modular, but all and all it is a great unit for the money and certainly worth a recommendation.

 

The Good:

  • Very stable +12V rail
  • Very good ripple suppression
  • 80 Plus Bronze efficiency confirmed
  • Great price

might be an ugly mouse but its what I am used too. Should mean less deaths on BF4 as well because I can rebind my knife and grenade keys! :D

 

Also considering current hardware, will be a nice boost to my machine and what I have been waiting for. Will easily last around 5 years (well I hope) before a new upgrade is wanted (or needed)

Looks awful, feels amazing. I've had it 3 years now, still going strong. Even got the keyboard to match! :p

Decided to get a Corsair 750w PSU instead. Want a modular one instead! Plus it will save me about £12 :)

Can't speak for your PSU specifically, but I really rate the Corsair PSUs I have used, they seem to have found a good balance between price and performance :)
