HarryMonkey Posted January 18, 2017 Author Posted January 18, 2017 I can't seem to get the motivation to drag myself out on a cold wet night to run through the car fume infested streets. I think I might have to do the one thing I hate just slightly less than that ... The treadmill !!

kennysarmy Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 I did 3 miles last night at a very steady pace - 10m / mile - target is 200 miles this year and currently on target
sippo Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 well, Rough n Tumble done. 10miles around the Wiltshire countryside through gloop and up/down hills. Standard road based half marathons are much easier I think. that brings back nightmares! Good fun though. I prefer off road. See Swindon Half course was announced. Opening date is 1st Feb.
Iain.Faulkner Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 (edited) Couple of runs over the weekend, 8km on Friday (pace 5.36 per km) and then 16.1km on Sunday (pace 5.56 per km) very please with both runs. Friday was a much quicker pace than I normally run at, the pace is slightly skewed as I had to cross two roads at points which brought 2 of the kilometres down to around 6 minutes the rest were all around the 5.30 mark. Sunday was the longest run I've done in this half marathon training session, felt good, pleased to have kept the same pace for most of the run and was comfortable enough to have felt that I could have gone a bit further :-) Forgot to add....Sunday's run, I spent about half an hour running through sleet/snow!! kennysarmy Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 I'm afraid when I saw the forecast of minus 2 for the park run I decided to stay in bed 2
ICTLady Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 @Iain.Faulkner, it was nice to say hello to you at BETT (I was at the Edugeek stand getting my lanyard when you came by). I'm doing OK at the moment, much happier running in this cold/dark/wet than in the height of summer. Unfortunately it limits my routes as I don't feel safe going off the beaten track but a nice slow few miles up and down the well lit main roads are quite pleasant in the dark and drizzle (no? OK maybe just me then ). Not much in the race calendar yet for 2017. Doing the Larmer 10 Mile in March and my first marathon in June if all goes to plan

Sam_Brown Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 10k for the first time since 2015 yesterday. Not my fastest and a fair bit of walking at the beginning but really loosened up around 5k in and finished strongly so which I'm always happy with. Signed up on daily mile where reddit have a challenge going. Insane to see so many people already on 100 or 200 miles for the year and we're barely a month in! I'm with you guys on preferring colder weather. Was nice and drizzly yesterday but much more preferable to the times when sun is beating down on you. 2
Iain.Faulkner Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 Nice drizzly but mild night for running last night :-) Out with the Poynton Runners for 5km but ran down to the meeting point to top it up to a nice 7km total. Pace around 6 minutes per km with a couple of faster ones in there as well. 1

Not at the 100/200 miles mark yet but my brand new Saucony Omni 14s are getting a good workout :-) Similarly, prefer the colder weather for running - I get far too hot running when the sun is out
HarryMonkey Posted February 1, 2017 Author Posted February 1, 2017 Finally rejoined the gym last night (I was waiting for the "no joining fee" offer), so it's back to the treadmill for me and the good lady 1
Iain.Faulkner Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Two runs over the weekend, a nice pacey 10km on Friday at 5:51 per km, but that is slightly wrong in that I walk the first 500m of the run so my first 1km is timed at 7:24. All others are in and around the 5:30-5:40 region and even managed a sub 5:30 for the last km. Then my biggest training run of the year on Sunday which was 17km (approximately 10.5 miles), good steady pace at 5:55 per km (again with the walk at the beginning) which if continued at that pace should get me around a 2 hours 4 minutes half marathon time, which is better than last year, and definitely on track for a sub 2 hours when I actually do the half marathon in 6 weeks time. 1
Iain.Faulkner Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 Slow plod out last night with the Poynton Runners....8km at a pace of around 6:06 per km. Couple of longer runs again this week to come, 10km on Thursday and then 20km on Saturday/Sunday...gulp 2
jdoyle Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 entered the Blackpool Marathon at the weekend. Takes place same day as the London Marathon which my running buddy got a ballot place for. Have been building up slowly since the start of January following the plan in the London Marathon booklet. Starts to get a bit more serious now.
jdoyle Posted February 19, 2017 Posted February 19, 2017 Completed the Chilly 9 Duathlon today at Castle Combe racetrack. First time doing a duathlon. Got around without getting disqualified or making too much of an idiot of myself. 2
AJWhite1970 Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 This week I've done five lunchtime runs of 4.5k each at a pace of 6:30/km (including Thursday while Doris was at her peak!) and also refereed a football match which was another 7k's and I feel really good at the end of it. Plan to do the same again next week. Really starting to feel like I'm back to the fitness levels I was at before I broke my foot 2 years ago 2
Iain.Faulkner Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 Managed to get out on Friday night for a fairly swift 10k (roughly 56:30). Not a million miles away from my pb time (54:50) so fitness is definitely going in the right direction. Struggling a bit for motivation though with running in general. Got just under 3 weeks until the half marathon and although I've run 18km about 2 weeks ago, I'm not feeling particularly confident. Need a good last couple of weeks training with a big run this Sunday I think, if I'm going to achieve anything at the half marathon. 1
Iain.Faulkner Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 Couple of runs this week.....5km on Tuesday with Poynton Runners, well 5.2km with an average pace of 5:19/km, then out for 10km on my own last night 5:50/km, felt hard work last night, but was only just a worse pace than the previous Friday where I felt really good. Big run this weekend, planning to do the longest run I'll do for this half marathon training.....20km is the aim, but anywhere between 18-20km will be enough to get me round the half marathon in two weeks (I think).
unixman_again Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 I found this inspiring video of a bloke celebrating his 90th birthday with 24 pull-ups. I do pull-ups as my opening gambit in the gym (supersetted with dips, military press, sandbag press or tricep extensions). I wish I could get 24 in one set - my best is 13 but these days (I'm 60) I'm stuck at sets of 8.
Iain.Faulkner Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 Didn't manage to get out on Sunday....so I went out last night instead...20km covered in 2 hours. Virtually full half marathon distance :-) Very pleased, just need to up the pace a little to try and get under 2 hours for the whole run. Just 5 training runs to go!! 1
Davit2005 Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 (edited) After a stint of Iliotibial Band Syndrome (ITBS) had to start again lite :-( , and I need to keep stretching. Edited March 7, 2017 by Davit2005
kennysarmy Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 Twisted my ankle playing football Friday evening so no running for me this week and I've just put my name down to volunteer at the park run on Saturday - otherwise I might do something stupid and try and run 5000 metres before it's healed properly!!!
Iain.Faulkner Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 Well it's not been a good 2 weeks for my running :-( After my big run last week, I then spent 4 days in bed ill....not an ideal way of starting my taper. Came back into work on Monday, then on Tuesday I moved a box of paper from our reprographics department to our office and as I put the box on the floor.....my back went ping....I'm now hobbling round the office....pretty much guaranteed that I will not be running in the half marathon on Sunday. Pretty devastated to miss out, I've put the hard work in, I've trained hard and now I've got to miss out :-(

Managed 2 miles last night and ankle held up OK. I've got a long term foot injury and a little bit of pain from that but heyho 1
