HarryMonkey Posted March 11, 2016 Author Posted March 11, 2016 Completed Week 5 - well chuffed Nice one, the rest will be a doddle 1
jdoyle Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Nice easy 10k last night, time of about 56 minutes 30 seconds. Now done 21 training runs as part of my half marathon prep! Sunday is the biggest run I do as part of my training at 21km! I think it's more than I need to do as a training run (it is practically full half marathon distance), but the plan is telling me to do it, so I'll do it! Then I'm into a 3 week taper in the build up to the half marathon run itself! Sounds like you are well on the way to a good HM!
Novalee Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Just joining in! I did my first one of these last night and actually enjoyed it! I tried it a few years back and got to week 4 or 5 when my friend stopped doing it and I kind of lost motivation without her. So I'm on my own doing it this time and hopefully can get to the point of being able to run 5k - super exciting! Did you all stick rigidly to the 3 times a week or did you do any more? I feel enthusiastic currently and am tempted to go again this evening? 2

Also, I've sometimes done more than the three sessions before moving to the next week, just so I felt comfortable with where I was before moving on a step.

I stuck to the plan, three times a week ensuring proper rest between sessions otherwise that's where you can risk hurting yourself. I was lucky in that I had entered for a race which by happy coincidence was straight after week 9 so I had to stick to the plan or I wouldn't have got finished by the time that race day came around.
Iain.Faulkner Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 So....Half Marathon Training run 22 yesterday. Great day for it, warm, sunny little to no wind. I ran the route I wanted to run, ran the whole thing and my Strava App told me that I had run 21.2km....a full half marathon and in only 1 hour 58 minutes!! Unfortunately, I had felt from about 11km that the km milestones were coming around a bit too quickly. So me and my wife went out and drove the route....sadly it would seem I only did 19.6km :-( Into the taper now on the plan, 3 weeks to go until the actual half marathon on the 3rd April...just 8 training runs to go! Just joining in! I did my first one of these last night and actually enjoyed it! I feel enthusiastic currently and am tempted to go again this evening? Well done on starting up again! :-) I stuck rigidly to the plan and did the 3 runs each week. I wouldn't recommend pushing it too much as you do need to give yourself rest days otherwise you may cause yourself injuries. 1
jdoyle Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 good run. More than enough for your HM. Adrenaline etc will do you good on the event! I did a PB on Friday night - 7:21 mile on a 2mile run. Surprised and pleased. Slow 5mile run on Saturday ahead of a 20mile run yesterday. 3:40:02. Absolute wreck at the end of it. 1
jdoyle Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 ran my first Park Run in ages this morning. 24:35. Plan to do a few more this year, looking to get at least 1 sub 24minute result. 1

Great effort, one of my goals for this year is to do a sub 25 minute park run...just waiting for the weather to get a bit better and my local park run to dry out a bit :-) 1
Iain.Faulkner Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 So...10 days to go till the half marathon.....and I've got a hip injury :-( Agony walking down corridors...I even had to pop into the staffroom yesterday and have a sit down I hurt so much :-( Booked into Physio tonight, fingers crossed it can be sorted.

Doesn't sound good - hope it improves quickly. If it doesn't you will have to rest it and NOT try to run 1
Iain.Faulkner Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 So, two sets of physio over the weekend and I've been cleared to run. Just some tight muscles which have been well prodded and accupunctured by the Physio. Went out for a 7km run on Sunday, went ok, can still feel the hip but it wasn't painful. Two training runs to go this week, fairly short (10km and 6km) and then the half marathon! 2

Iain.Faulkner Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 Out last night, managed 9km...i wasn't in pain, but I could definitely feel my hip still :-( Serious confidence issues about running a half marathon at this point :-(
Popular Post Iain.Faulkner Posted April 3, 2016 Popular Post Posted April 3, 2016 So...the big day finally arrived. I prepared well last night, kit ready, carbed up in the evening...woke up this morning with a temperature of 38 and a stinking cold :-( was in two minds as to whether or not to run. Took paracetamol and ibuprofen and went to the event...and ran the full half marathon!! 13.1 miles in 2.08:18 :-) delighted to have gotten round given how dreadful I felt this morning (and this evening) :-) Plus raised over £500 for Mind as well :-) 5

jdoyle Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Went for a fastish 2mile run Friday night (2.08m in 16:53), Park Run on Saturday morning (3.13m in 25:40) and then Reading Half Marathon on Sunday (13.13 in 1:58:03 - official time 1:58:00 this year; 2:03:56 last year). Didn't enjoy the HM at all: too hot after training in generally cold and cloudy conditions.
jdoyle Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 not sure what's happening but my legs are just feeling awful at the moment. Laboured on a run last night; long run this morning to be done slowly but even slow was dreadful. Lacking any sort of umph in them.
jdoyle Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 If anyone is on Strava, I've created an Edugeek Runners club on Strava. Only 1 member at the moment :-( .....
