Iain.Faulkner Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Well....biggest run on the plan yesterday 17km required......absolutely smashed it :-) 17.7km total distance covered in around 1 hour 40. Very very pleased to have hit the distance and delighted that the time wasn't dreadful (still on for under 6 minute Km's) :-) I genuinely believe that I would have finished the half marathon yesterday and would have had an outside chance of getting in under 2 hours. 1
jdoyle Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 did Longleat 10k yesterday. A good outing for the new Garmin VivoActive. Very very cold before the start but no rain thankfully. Managed to finish in 56:34 chip time so slightly better than last years 58:28. Really am not good at hills and will need to keep working on this aspect of my running. It has improved but still a struggle.
Iain.Faulkner Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Picked this up from Twitter :-) I've just seen this as well! :-) Seriously struggling with running motivation at the moment :-( Managed a swift 8km last night (did 5km in 27:03 which is rapid for me) and did 10km last Friday night in a decent time....but just feel very lethargic at the moment. Thankfully it's a relatively easy week this week. First proper race a week on Sunday...the Manchester Winter 10km....hoping to really push that and get under 55 minutes!
jdoyle Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 use the lethargy as rest time :-) Good luck with the 10k! 1
Iain.Faulkner Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 did another 8km last night (still using the half marathon plan I've been using since the beginning of the year), really pushed myself and managed to do the 8km in about 43 minutes, set a couple of new records (according to strava) as well including knocking my best 5km time down to 26:48 :-). Really pleased with the run, gives me definite hope of being able to get under 55 minutes in the race next week :-) 2
jdoyle Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 put in a few runs this weekend (2.11m Friday, 10.56m Saturday and 13.25m Sunday) and am now on a rest - if only to let the chafing subside :-( Heading northwards to run in the Coventry Half Marathon on Sunday. Not looking to do anything special time wise; using it to help build towards Milton Keynes Marathon
jdoyle Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 49 new runners at the Swindon Shin Splints Beginners Course that started this Saturday. Very nice turnout. 1
Iain.Faulkner Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Seriously struggling to get out at the moment....got out last night though for a very quick 5km.....got my best time down to 26 minutes 22 seconds....I quite purposely only done a little bit of running this week though to try to ensure I am well rested for the Manchester Winter 10km this weekend. Fingers crossed for sub 55 minutes! :-) 1
Iain.Faulkner Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Well....the Manchester Winter 10km yesterday went pretty well.... I had an original target time (at the beginning of the year) of 57:30...last week I revised this down to 55 minutes. Finishing time..............51:56!! A bit quicker than I expected to say the least!! :-) Very very happy....may have to look at a sub 50 minute 10km now for the Manchester 10km in May :-)

Iain.Faulkner Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Quick jog out last night with a friend, nice sociable 6.4km plod as a recovery run from Sundays exertions. Just 4 weeks to go now till the half marathon, this week isn't too bad on the plan.....but next week is the biggest week with the Sunday run supposed to be 20km!
Sam_Brown Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Ran 5k for the first time in months the other day. Coming back from injury is tough ;_; 2
Sam_Brown Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 My back is knackered. I can't run for longer than 10 minutes without it absolutely crippling me. Really disappointed as I've already had to put off my first HM by two months. I' decided to give myself two weeks rest completely from running and all physical activity but the result is the same... crippling back pain. So frustrating as I played football the other night and no issues at all. Ugh. I need to book a physio I think but they aren't cheap... Just to add to my previous post. After putting this off for months I finally went to the doctors and they told me they'd refer me to physio but it's going to take a few months to be seen. Ugh. Wish I'd gone back when it first started hurting. I'm still running on and off but it's mostly really slowly with a few minutes rest between shortish running sessions purely to try and stay fit. So when I say 5km it's more 3km running 2km walking but it's all I can bare to do. Really frustrating when I feel capable of doing more and the only issue is pain in my lower back.
Tesla Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Is the pain only when running? could be your running shoes if newish and wrong fit / or very old and worn out
Sam_Brown Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Is the pain only when running? could be your running shoes if newish and wrong fit / or very old and worn out Hurt my back shifting some heavy equipment a while back. Hurts when I do other things these days like carrying heavy shopping bags!
Iain.Faulkner Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 Another run last night....no sub 50 minute heroics but a nice comfortable 58 minute 10km :-)
eyetea Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 Starting a routine of running for 25-30mins on "off" days too, literally go straight to gym, hop on treadmill, do what I can in 30 mins and scoot home. 1
Iain.Faulkner Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 Another Sunday longer run yesterday....15km in about 1:26:00...by my reckoning that's just about within a 2hour half marathon (or certainly border line anyway)...might need to put in a quick last km :-)
Sam_Brown Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 6k on Sunday. Took me 40 minutes as I'm still walking on and off but it was a really nice day so glad to be out there. 4
Seb1780 Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 Started Week 5 at the weekend - by this time next week I'll have run 2 miles non-stop 1
Iain.Faulkner Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 Started Week 5 at the weekend - by this time next week I'll have run 2 miles non-stop Great work at making it to week 5! I seem to remember it getting harder at week 4 so well done on getting through it :-) Good luck with week 5 1
jdoyle Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 didn't run Friday or Saturday which is unusual for me. Completed 17.58miles yesterday in 3hrs 1min 40secs. A little bit of chafing but not too bad. Approx 8 weeks to go till Milton Keynes marathon. 1
Iain.Faulkner Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 Reasonable length slow (but sociable) recovery run last night....8.4km in around 54 minutes. Hurt a lot! Think I'm still recovering from the weekend. This is the start of my longest week of training where I should hit 40km total distance covered. 1
Iain.Faulkner Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Nice easy 10k last night, time of about 56 minutes 30 seconds. Now done 21 training runs as part of my half marathon prep! Sunday is the biggest run I do as part of my training at 21km! I think it's more than I need to do as a training run (it is practically full half marathon distance), but the plan is telling me to do it, so I'll do it! Then I'm into a 3 week taper in the build up to the half marathon run itself! 1
