Got asked if I planned to put a Christmas screensaver up this year as it's normally up by now.

I tend to do it for every occasion like Christmas/haloween etc.

I never get any feedback about it so said I'm not going to bother this time when someone asked. Then told I was a grumpy git lol (jokingly).

Apparently they all love it.

I'm really not in a cheerful mood at the minute, if my name was Scrooge I was be visited by the ghosts I think.

The mother in law is coming for the week and I'd be dreading it but I'm b*ggering off to Portugal on Boxing Day on my own. Already got some invites to parties. :) Just hope the Easyjet pilot's strike doesn't affect me.

I've put up my Christmas wallpaper in both schools - it's the only celebratory change I make all year. I have heard the odd "ohh that's nice" but only a couple have actually told me how nice it is. I actually believe that some of them don't know it was me

:(

It's hard to be grumpy when the kids start at 3 months in my school. Christmas is marked by the Nativity play, the Christmas Fair, the Carol Service and an no arguments belief in Santa... it's probably against the Code of Conduct to fail to believe.

Yesterday, I had some 3 year old representatives of the the Pre School proudly come up to my office with a calendar with a heavily glittered picture of a robin as a present for me. I love it :)

Maybe the wallpaper needs to say"Merry Christmas. Love from @witch" subtly in the corner to drop the hint. I'd do it.

No I am the one annoying everyone else with my festive cheer.

Could be working in a primary school, the kids are so excited and there's so much chritsmassy stuff going on it just rubs off on you! :D

I think you are right @sparkeh... Primary schools restore your faith in Christmas as a celebration. Even Year 6 can usually be persuaded not to spoil it for the littlest ones :)

I didn't bother with a Christmas wallpaper (couldn't think of a decent way to modify our standard one in time - I will by next year!), but feel pretty Christmassy regardless (and I work in a secondary school)!

Not me this year. Which makes a change for the guy with a Mr Grumpy mug. I have my Santa monitor surround and my Boba Fett snowflakes up at work. Not got owt at home but I'm going away for Xmas so it's kinda pointless.

Christmas IS a load of tosh. Once was a religious celebration - although I've always had great doubts about the 'immaculate conception' :o Nowadays it's just yet another occasion for commercial organisations to rake as much cash off folk who in many cases don't have the cash to be fleeced of in the first place. I notice that despite this wonderful Government's statements of clamp downs the pay day lenders with their huge interest rates are advertising even more heavily.

I'm not normally a grumpy git ... I put the lights up outside the flat and make the Christmas cake and several dozen mince pies and generally look forward to the festive time. This year though will be the first one on my own so haven't really bothered at all. CBA to make a cake, have made some mince pies for friends and family and written a few cards out but that's it for me this year. The first solo Christmas and can't decide whether I'm looking forward to it or not.

Not normally grumpy, I love the run up to Christmas, lights, good telly, family time and this year my daughter is of age to get excited!

Usually feel it is over by about 2pm Xmas day though!

However there is lots going on in the professional world that is weighing heavily on my mind so not is the right mood this year I think...

@timbo343 You are So right! So is Easter, Birthdays and all these bleeping International days for just about anything from sneezing through to more serious issues and don't get me started on Sports Relief and Children in Need!! Whilst I'm at it to the Government could do something useful by reviewing Charities, weeding out those that are duplicates - with expensive Admin and the other so called Charities that surely miss at least the spirit of the original concept; Boarding Schools for example!

The government can keep its grubby mitts off of charities. Overlap exists for a reason in most charities. Lots of smaller charities are often more efficient than one giant merged charity.

I guess it depends on your definition of charity and the effectiveness of the charities' work.

Charity Schools are an important part of the history of education in this country, providing education to the disadvantaged. If you are talking about the original concept of charity then "the advancement of education" (one of the legal descriptions of a charitable purpose) fits right in with this.

It was of course a pagan celebration first! It has always been an excuse for organisations to try and get people to buy things - but y'know, they don't have to. Yes, it is hard to stand against the tide but people must take responsibility for their own lives. No one is MAKING people take out loans just to buy the latest tech for their children.

Christmas does get families together - yes, we could do it at other times of year but life flies by so quickly and we are always meaning to organise visits but....etc etc. And it makes us think about those less fortunate than ourselves. So it isn't all bad :)

^Agreed.

We don't spend a fortune in our family and never had. For us Christmas is about getting together and having fun. There are presents but there is a small budget and the fun is getting good presents for the small sum.

My family have a saying - "It's for the kids". The adults don't do presents to each other, we prefer to just enjoy the company and atmosphere, and watching the kids.

I've bought the missus some things regardless..but it's her b'day on the 7th Jan, so it's part of that too. She's at a total loss as to what to get me - I suggested "laid", she chuckled. Who was kidding?! :) A cheapie digital photoframe for the work desk would be nice, or a work mug..I'm that undemanding..heh.

Mostly I'll be enjoying the atmosphere, the food, the drink, and the company.
