I am a one man band and love my job but obviously if anything happens to me we are stuffed. I have gone down the line of company support when i have been off for a week at a time but this is prety much money for old rope as they have never been called into to do anything so I am looking at maybe a assistant. (please don't send me CV's, this is way off). What I would like is a apprentice who I can pass on knowledge to and give them an opportunity to go to college. Now the biggest sticking block would be £££. Any Managers gone down this line before? I am unsure if to contact colleges or just advertise. Its a big outlay for us and it would be part time term time probably with a few extra weeks. Undecided which route to take, its a complicated job with lots of stuff I probably do wrong so getting someone in to help would be good.

Out of 3, one was very good, one was poor and left before her time was up and one, we ... basically fired them. There may be other small companies in the same boat - perhaps you could buddy up with one to give mutual cover?

We sound pretty much in the same situation as you - we're looking to hire someone in a similar-sounding role, offering £22,000 a year. We paid for an advert on Gumtree, which didn't get great results - out of the 110 replies, about 6 had actually managed to fill in the application form, most just sent us CVs cut-and-pasted together by CV writing services. We wound up not hiring anyone the first time round, so we're going to try again, but this time probably advertise in the TES and ask the careers services at some local universities.

I need some work experience in a school doing I.T but it depends where your located, i'l even do it for free if it means I get given a chance to work.

RobD Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 I know this may not be a favourable route but the School I work for were struggling for ICT staff so ended up contacting a ICT specialist company who provide backup and temporary staff when short or when bogged down with work but this probably isn't the cheapest method.

MrPstv Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Just had interviews for an apprentice this week! Dozens of applications,short listed 7 and 2 turned up for the interview! Young man starting in 2014. Very keen has basic knowledge of how things work,aware of different operating systems,has experience of working in a school environment. The school will get funding,the apprentice will get experience and some qualifications at the end and possibly a job. This is very similar to how i started many moons ago,way back then when............... Here's a link, NSA / National School Apprenticeships I hope this helps!

Looking for 17 - 18 year old with programming skills in PHP, Python and any other programming language who has a decent knowledge of computing already, I know that this may seem a big ask but I remember a PFY at 15 years old who had these qualities and more @webman yes you know! So if there is anyone who meets this criteria then PM me please with CV if they are interested in this role in an apprenticeship position up north near Durham. 1
JB7 Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Look at recruitment agencies such as ITEC NE and NECC (If that's still going) Yes these are still going, I completed an IT Practitioner Level 3 Apprenticeship from 2011 to early 2013 - However midway through 2012 I got offered a full time job as an IT Tech and this September got promoted to an Assistant of Department. Very effective for a company both through money that you save and getting extra time to yourself for other things as you have another set of hands on site; and with the right training and development path very effective for the individual

Very effective for a company both through money that you save and getting extra time to yourself for other things as you have another set of hands on site; and with the right training and development path very effective for the individual Yes I was from ITec Middlesbrough doing my level 2, got offered full time job half way through mine, then the job offered to pay for my level 3, which I completed, got offered the senior tech job and have now moved onto bigger and better things
