sven Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Hello everyone, We have been running Office 2010 for some time now, and it's working great. I was wondering if anyone out there has already made the move over to Office 2013 and if so, what issues are there to look out for? I want to make sure I keep staff running on the latest version, but not at the expense of functionality. Sven.
zag Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 I wouldn't bother, the interface isn't very nice compared to 2010 and it only has a few features that people would use. Specifically I've found the edit PDF feature really good, but other than that nothing else worth upgrading for.
FN-GM Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 We migrated. So it matches other 2013 services like sharepoint, lync etc. The one thing that Office 2013 doesn't have is the Picture Manager found in 2010. Some of our users used this. How you looking at pushing it out?

I didn't even realise this was built into Office 2013. I quite like the simplicity of the new Windows visual themes, so I guess it's more of a personal point of view.

Is this something that you only allow staff to use? You will need to make sure you remove office 2010 before you install 2013. You can do this by using the office scrub.vbs script. 2

As others have stated, it's pretty much identical to Office 2013 in many aspects. If you were using Office 2003 or Office 2007, then I would agree that upgrading to 2010 or 2013 would be sensible. 2

That's what I was thinking, I just wanted to hear someone else say it. I would usually leave updating to a new version until at least SP1 came out, but I've heard of quite a few people running Office 2013, and I wanted to see how other people were getting on. Michael Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 I believe Office 2013 SP1 has or is just about to be released. Office 2010 is up to SP2 now and is a very stable/reliable product.
zag Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 (edited) I use 2013 myself and the outlook interface is horrible compared to the 2010 version. Its all flat, bright and touchscreeny. Not my cup of tea at all! A thing I do like is the smooth scrolling cursor, but its hardly worth upgrading for that Edited November 25, 2013 by zag
Oaktech Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 there are a few minor advantages to 2013 mainly in the editing of PDF and some nice things outlook does. I run it at home as a test environment, and it's bloody horrid to look at. For me, the fact that the UI seems to have been designed in paint, is enough to not inflict it on my users untill I have a really good reason. 2
AngryTechnician Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 I deployed it here very soon after it launched, so have now been using it so long it's hard to remember what the changes were (other than using all caps on the ribbon tab titles that everyone seemed to hate for no real reason). The main improvement is that it integrates better with Office 365. Unfortunately there is also a horrible bug with roaming profiles if you use Office 365, so it's a double-edged sword. Outlook IMAP is still bloody awful, especially with Gmail. All the other Outlook bugs features from 2010 are still there. Definitely switch to the Grey theme for the UI as soon as possible.
Sylv3r Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 We pushed out Office 2013 to all of our users ready for our return in September. Only thing that we had problems with, was Sage 200 as it didn't like it. Not sure an update is now available which resolves the issues. 1
