Hey Guys

Sorry but this is the best place I find to ask questions and I'm having some serious issues with my laptop that some of you may know I bought only 2-3 days ago. Whenever my computer goes to sleep or is idle for a long time it BSOD and I can't understand why. So I did a fresh install of Windows, installed all the drivers that I needed and it is still doing it :(!!! I had to ring Dell but their customer support is appauling. A BSOD just occured while configuring Windows updates. I will upload the .dmp files if any of you could have a look. It says driver_state_failure in BlueScreen Viewer 0x100009f as the bug check code :(. Please help....

Can't help thinking that's something to do with a lower power sleep state, perhaps it's missing the required power management driver/software (I know Alienware laptops often have this, called AlienFusion at present). You may be able to switch from the current sleep state to a higher-power one (e.g. S3 to S1).

Hi mate, I've tryed doing that with no avail, it always seems to be after I have installed Alienware Command Cener (which includes alienware fusion) I have done a system restore before I installed this and I'm going to test it installing all updates etc and see if this had caused the issues. I'm worried though because I won't be able to use AlienFX and things like that if I don't have the command center!!

I think it must be a driver problem, maybe something to do with the killer NIC :/ The hardware seems to be fine!

Ahh its a Killer NIC, which version of windows did you use? There were major issues with their drivers before so I would try using the ones on their site not alienware versions.

Im using Windows 7 64bit, I can't find a driver for the Killer NIC. It's a Killer E2200 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.20). All I can find on their website is a wifi one and the other Ethernet one isn't for my model really confusing. If you could point me in the right direction of the new driver I'd appreciate it :)

I don't have alienware or a Killer NIC but it's famous enough issue as I've heard of it. This is why I never invested in a killer NIC for my PC. The standby issues were never resolved! I do believe it was an upgade to get the killer nics in the laptop so you could always try a downgrade? (I've never seen a miniPCIe LAN card though?) if your not using LAN try disabling the NIC.

dry disabling anyway as a stability test.

For a time, (and they probably still do), Alienware proactively encouraged or allowed users to overclock their hardware. Is your notebook overclocked or is it running at its standard speed?

Thanks for your help mate although it seems to be exactly the same driver version :/

*Seems* as in the filename/version number or size?

Its just dell have a habit of tweaking the drivers inside the pack. I would use the KillerNIC removal tool on their site then try those exact drivers and see if it helps.

I know 100% KillerNIC had a major issue with 8 (and then 8.1 when it came out although it was fixed in 8 by then) where nic traffic would eat up ram and not release it. You would find all the ram gone but no large processes.

I don't think it is the killer nic now... I have got another BSOD again, The latest crash using blue screen view it shows CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION with code 0x000000f4 and it always says the same ntoskrnl.exe was the part with the problem.

The PC I completely standard and brand new :/ I have never overclocked it!! please help :(

Do you have any sort of warrenty? It could be worth using that to get a replacement.

I have got another BSOD again

I would definitely send the laptop back either for a full refund or a replacement (as @twin--turbo mentioned above I wouldn't wait much longer before doing this).

Btw, did it originally come with Windows 8.1 pre-installed?

No it came with Windows 7 64bit. I have checked both hard drives the SSD and HDD with the WD diagnostics thingy and it has passed on both. I have called them and they are going to take it but I'd like to avoid this as I could be left without a computer for 2 weeks and I use it as my main PC for work! They apparently won't send me a replacement they just repair the parts so said Dell (also said by his manager) pfft rubbish!!! The computer now struggles to start it will just idle at the starting windows logo for nearly an hour and wouldn't do anything so I had to force it to turn off and restarted it and it booted :S I'm hoping it's not my SSD that I installed although can't see how this would be the case as it's been in another gaming rig of mine for a year and never failed once until I put it in this!!! Really getting angry now £1500 I spent on this and it's a load of cr*p! :(
