StevieM Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Earlier this year, I was invited to a Meraki Webinar from Longbenton College and offered a free Wireless AP if I 'attended'. Had some post-webinar marketing emails but never received my free AP, despite contacting two different people about it. I was just wondering if anybody on here actually received a free AP.
StevieM Posted November 5, 2013 Author Posted November 5, 2013 @Dom_ Thanks for that. I'll keep at it then. By the way, did you actually buy anything from them?
CamelMan Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 I received one with no problem - however a friend of mine who did it did not receive his. However it could be because I had a call from someone else in Meraki inviting me to another webinar a few days later and I mentioned it to them on the phone. He chased them up over it once mine arrived and I think they sent one straight out, 1
Dom_ Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 By the way, did you actually buy anything from them? No - the AP is pretty good though!
StevieM Posted November 5, 2013 Author Posted November 5, 2013 (edited) I've just filled in a contact form on their website. Hope this does the trick. Way back in May, I attended a Meraki Webinar from LongbentonCollege, with the promise of a free Wireless AP.
After the webinar, I received a few emails from … whorequested our VAT ID and address, which I provided on 1 July. However, we didnot receive our AP. I emailed … in September, but received no response.Later, I received an invite to attend another webinar from'York College', again offering a free AP. While I did not attend this sessions, I did contact … to ask her tochase up our outstanding AP. Once again, I received no response. After posting on the EduGeek forum, I have found that somedid receive an AP, some had to chase it up, and others didn't receive one atall. Hopefully, this email will put me in the 'had to chase itup' category. Thanks for your time.
(Not sure why it keeps putting an 'end quote' tag after the first sentence!) chazzy2501 Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 I didn't attend that webinar but I have received a free MR12 for attending a webinar so it's a real offer. You will have to provide a valid VAT number to get it for free. 1
StevieM Posted November 5, 2013 Author Posted November 5, 2013 You will have to provide a valid VAT number to get it for free. Did that back in July! I'll follow @Dom_'s advice and keep pestering.
Chris_ Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 I attended one of their webinars and got a free AP. Phoned them after the webinar and gave them the school details, explained we weren't VAT registered (which was fine). The MR12 AP was delivered a few weeks later.
Edu-IT Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 I can PM you an email address to try if you like?
StevieM Posted November 7, 2013 Author Posted November 7, 2013 Thanks all. Received an email this morning: Hi Steve, Your free Meraki access point has just shipped.
Hail to the power of pester.
SovietRussia Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 I got mine within 2 days, nice pieces of kit also.
glennda Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 It is a valid offer - They offer the MR12 for free. For anybody who tries to test throughput and load on one of these devices, it is the one at the lowest end of the range - so if you don't get amazing performance don't be too surprised. I did the Meraki CMNA earlier this year and nicely have a Meraki MR24 AP, MX60 Firewall and a 24 port switch out of it
dave.81 Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 I got mine, really like the unit and the info it's giving us. Would love if ruckus could give info back as nicely.
DannyBroadhurst Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 (edited) I got mine straight away. Then Bought a futher 6. And was set up within a day! The system is amazing to use and feature rich. Edited November 8, 2013 by DannyBroadhurst Spelling :D
glennda Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 I got mine straight away. Then Bright a futher 6. And was set up within a day! The system is amazing to use and feature rich. Wait until you see the new features that where published to Channel earlier this week Although most of it isn't based around the Wireless but some very good new features.
Gaz Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Bit of a necro thread boost but they are now giving away the MR18 I got mine today.
featured_spectre Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 My boss and I may well be up for this. How is the MR18 for its range?
Gaz Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 My boss and I may well be up for this. How is the MR18 for its range? Only just got it today and I've not had a chance to play with it yet as I've been running Functional Skills tests all day. I also need to run a cable to where I'll be using the access point before I can use it, then I'll feed back as to what its like. I followed this link from broadbandbuyer. FREE Meraki MR18 access point - after a live webinar I don't know if the MR18 is a promotional free AP using the BBB referral code, or if all webinars now qualify for the MR18 but its a £430 AP with a 3 year licence thats worth £200 for free.
glennda Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 My boss and I may well be up for this. How is the MR18 for its range? Very good obviously depending on the building - they are dual radio units and can cope with a fair chunk being thrown at them
featured_spectre Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 cool. Seeing as we have 2 sets of addresses, premises and vat numbers, we may go for one for each building.
