  1. Ill have another look now. I declined all the updates till i could get a grip on what was happening. Also it may be un related but i get Unexpected error and i have to reset the server node quite often.
  2. Something isnt right then. Because i have an XP update that is installed on 230+ Machines we only have 250... And i would say about 10 are XP...
  3. I have Simple groups Laptops, Desktops, Workstations and Servers. I dont narrow it down by OS Etc. I was hoping it was clever enough to know the PC has Windows 7 so clearly doesnt need the Windows 2008 R2 update..
  4. No i know that but UAC in most cases will stop people accessing programs it deems as unsuitable for the user. I just set up policies withing GP to dissalow Certain exe's within a OU.
  5. I got mine straight away. Then Bought a futher 6. And was set up within a day! The system is amazing to use and feature rich.
  6. Dissabled here. Group Policy stops people doing what they shouldnt be doing.
  7. Im starting to get annoyed now our old IT Manager has Left and its now down to me to learn how WSUS works and to get it working again. I thought it was all going well. Untill WSUS seemes to be pushing out every single update to every PC connected to it. This means Windows 7 Updates are going to Windows Servers ETC. This is causing no end of problems on the PC's
  8. I know, no one has replied to this for a while now but the need has arisen again. I am in need Of 1 PC to power 4 screens in differant areas. The connection will need to go over Fibre and Ethernet to reach the server room where the pc will be kept
  9. Hmm that would work with only 1 PC. I guess it would if i can give the Screen VGA to Ethernet adpater an IP?
  10. Hi, Thanks for this. Ive just been looking at the Kramer kit. Looks like it should do what i need. Although ive now been asked is it possible to have the screens showing something differant to eachother but on the one PC still. Not sure if this is or not.
  11. I have been in contact with startech thinking that would do what i need, and was told that the VGA over Etehrnet wouldnt work going through switches. I also need to go over fibers for one of the screens because its down the other end of the building and cat5 wouldnt work efficently. I kind of want a program that installas and lets me send a certain program to the screen with an IP set Say. Send Powerpoint 1 to IP: 1.2.3.1 Send Powerpoint 2 to IP: 1.2.3.2 Send Powerpoint 3 to IP: 1.2.3.3 Not sure if this is possible? I am looking through the solutions you have posted as we speak see if anything will do what i need.
  12. No worries. Good luck with it.
  13. Umm not sure. Allways worth a google. But as far as i know MAc Filtering is probably more secure then WPA or WEP. Just hide the SSID they then have to find out what the SSID is before they even try to conect to it. Also another idea is to change the IP. Defaults are 192.168.1.1 OR arroud that maybe try something like 192.168.50.1
  14. Much apprechiated if you could. We are running a PC and Windows iw ouldnt of thought it would be much differant.
  15. Yea i mean a way to to do it. Is to have just MAC Address filtering so add each MAC Address of Laptop needed to connect to it. Also hiding the SSID is another way. But you will need to know how to connect the laptop the the Wireless Manually. Thats how i do it anyway MAC Adress Filtering and SSID Not Broadcast. We Use Dells so it is really easy to set up the Wireless Manually. Not sure what you use.
  16. Worse thing ever.. Boss comes to you last thing, do you have a Laptop for a new Starter tomorrow Morning.... Kinda expect us to have everything there and then.
  17. We have About 10 HP Procurve 2810 throught the whole building. 4 of them being in the Server room its self.. Fantastic Switches. Would recomend.
  18. Were I work we have 27 Servers. From SQL, to NX Servers and Domino Servers. These server about 400 People over 2 Sites in the UK and US. We are currently getting that down to 7 Physical Servers but still 27 Servers Virtualised.
  19. Just a few questions. You say you have 2, are you using the second as a Extender? Also Make sure you have teh rigth channel selected and the laptops wireless is the same. Also the Encryption you use can also be a problem If you hide the SSID i have experienced problems with that. Also MAC Address Filtering. Let me know how you get on. When the School is quiet. Try turning security off on the router and see what happens then.
  20. I know you said no Dell, But the last few we have had at our company have all been standard inside with screws instead of leavers to release drives etc.. It all depends on his budget?
  21. Hi, We currently have one Screen up on the wall in our IT department. We want to move the PC Powering the screen into the Server room so it is out of the way. Our next idea was to put up 4/5 more screens around the building showing the same thing all coming from the one computer moved into the Server room. I am wondering the best way to do this is. My idea would be to get a basic VGA to Ethernet adapter and plug it into a floorport (which goes back to our server room) and then have a switch on the end of the PC with all of the Screens going into it through the floorports. Would this work? If not what do you suggest? Any help much Appreciated
