CCTV Outside Schools

I know it's a bit big brother, but if parents/adults parked sensibly then there would be no call for it.

 

The places I have seen parents park is damn right shocking, so I don't blame the councils for doing it. For me it is not for cash reasons, but for safety.

I am all for it. Parental parking is a nightmare at every school I am, or have been, involved with both as a parent and as an employee. I cannot believe the arrogance of some who feel it is their right to park 10 feet from the school gate.

All for it here, too. We used to have a policeman parent who would cruise down the little cul-de-sac up to the school gate in his police car in order to frighten the parents away - otherwise they park across the yellow zig-zags and on both sides of the road - usually with two wheels on the pavement so that when they pull away they are half on the pavement for a few feet. I have seen small children being hit by wing mirrors etc because the person in the driving seat (often in a Chelsea Tractor) couldnt see them as they were so little.

We have two traffic wardens getting abuse in the morning and afternoon, often get the police help out.

 

Our school is situated on a crossroads with a one way system the other side with the one way traffic coming onto crossroad.

 

There is the infant side of our school the other side of the crossroads on the one way system.

 

There is also double yellows all round the crossroads but parents still park across them and peoples drives.

 

Im not sure cctv would work for us, The traffic wardens and police seem to work at the moment.

It was on the radio this morning. Worst case was that a parent threatened to run over the lollipop lady, who was 72, because she was late for work. She had just dropped her child off at the school, and was stressed apparently.

 

Hmph. Get up earlier then.

We have one local lollipop lady who has quit because cars just don't stop.

 

At the girls primary it can be a nightmare and there is no-where to park for the majority of the time police say it's not their job to help out.

I hate been around schools first and last thing when its busy with traffic its like a different world and its dangerous at times, cars just come at you from all angles. Something needs to be done but parents just keep turning up in the great big 4x4's to drop the kids off and the house is only a 5 minute walk away!

Having experienced the abuse from angry drivers, I totally agree with this totally. The chance of kids being injured is far too high with bad driving going on.

Oh we've had punch ups over parking on the past. Dead classy in front of your kids.

 

Couple of weeks ago we had wardens backed by police handing out fines. Flipping bunch of idiots matched in and demanded the school pay the fine! They didn't get very far with that one!

 

Guess what the parents' suggestion to alleviate the problem was? More courteous driving? No, to build them a car park. What planet are these people on?

Just remember everyone becomes a muppet on the school run. Quite sensible, normal, people become inconsiderate, selfish ***** once they're behind the wheel with little Colby and Shelby on board.

When my son was in Year 4, he broke his leg and had a full length plaster cast. It made getting around quite difficult. The school gave me soecial dispansation to drive into the staff parking area so that I could get him and his bag into school easily. I got so much abuse from other parents... as did the staff who told them that they were not allowed to do as I did for 6 weeks.

Gone are the days when parents have the time to do that or indeed live close enough to do that, especially when its freezing/raining.

 

I lived opposite a junior school for 7 years and frequently had ignorant parents park across and even on a couple of occasions park on my drive. They soon stopped that when my an the neighbour blocked them in and ignored them banging on the door....
