fiza Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 I signed up with Giffgaff last year and although most of the time its been fine I have had times when my phone has said it has no signal and also when texts I sent in the morning didnt arrive until the evening!!! Also had family say they tried ringing me but couldnt get through. I think its time I moved away from Giffgaff. I already have a phone so dont want to get tied up in a 24 month contract so the rolling 30 days ones suit me. So far I have seen the Virgin Starter SIM at £10 with 250 mins, unlimited texts and 1GB of Data. I am not a heavy Data user away from home. But will Virgin be any better than Giffgaff? Both piggy back on other networks. Anybody have any experience of Virgin Mobile?
Danp Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 What about Asda mobile? I saw the other day they are going to use EE's network which personally I can't fault.

pantscat Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 I've just moved away from GiffGaff for the same reasons you cite. I've moved to TalkMobile - a carphone warehouse owned company that use Vodafone as their carrier. So far, so good... number ported over next day after placing the order. Pretty impressive. I pay a whopping £7 a month for 250 mins, 5000 texts and 500mb of data.
penfold Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Ask @john about that. Have you thought about Tesco Mobile? I moved from Tesco after experiencing the same problems as the OP. I'm currently with Vodafone which has better signal around my house but their customer services isn't good.
SpuffMonkey Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 You could try Ovivo = I'm a light user and don't pay anything at the moment

Gibbo Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 I've been using Orange for years and have been very happy with the service and what you get for the money. I stick a tenner credit on at the start of a month, which gives me 300 texts and 1Gb of internet. I always get a good 3G signal. At the start of the second month I just let the £10 credit pay for calls, texts and internet, then stick on another tenner at the start on month 3, so I'm essentially paying a fiver a month. They used to do the phone fund (£1 off a new phone for every £10 you top up), and when combined with the public sector staff discount can give you a great chunk off the cost of a new phone.
jmak Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 I've had similar issues to fiza. I went to GiffGaff to get the free GiffGaff to GiffGaff calls and texts: whole household is on, which means that when my son spends all of his credit on watching carp YouTube videos or sending inane junk to his mates, he can still get through to me to say "Help. I've lost my key and my bus pass. Please come and get me." Are there any other similar options?

um1t Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Tesco mobile work on the o2 backbone! As does giffgaff. Your best off staying away from o2 and Tesco mobile! Check out this deal with T mobile: T-Mobile Combi SIM mobile phone on SIM Only £11 - 12M Its 500 mins, unlimited txt, 1 GB internet which is 11 pounds a month. Its a 12 month sim only. Also if you go through quidco you can 70 quid cashback which would pay off literally 7 months of your bill. If you want more info on quidco, just let me know. With t mobile you have a cooling period, so if you have any issues you can call them up and cancel and get charged nothing.
Nixon77 Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 I have the same problem, every now and then the signal just goes. Its never been right since the big blackout a while back.
