Morning all,

I use roaming profiles here but the prospect of mandatory profiles has come up as a possible way to increase login speed across the site. My question is does anyone have experience of both roaming and mandatory profiles and would you say mandatory profiles are much faster than roaming?

I know there are a lot of variations to consider but just after a general response (yes much faster, no real difference etc...)

Thanks all in advance for your opinions.

with xp yes they seem faster with 7 i found them slower (sometimes much) though first logon with a new user is slow (4 mins i timed yesterday on 1 laptop) subsequent logons were <20 seconds with roaming profiles. I found win7 mandatory more hassle than they were worth just got quite a few silly errors

We run both, roaming for teachers and mandatory for students. This is due to the speed of mandatory across the many different machines students use, where roaming is more flexible and fast enough when a teacher usually logs on to the same workstation.

Both have their merits, but I like the ability with mandatory to lock some things down even tighter. On a fast machine it does give a quick logon, but the profile takes a fair bit of setting up and tweaking to get there.

We got rid of roaming across the site (via CC3) to mandatory when we went to 7. The speed difference is massively noticable, logon times very much quicker, and they help with security concerns too. Plus save a lot of crap that profiles generate that don't have to be backed up.

Wondering if anyone has direct experience of Win 7&8 profiles vs mandatory? We have 8 here which produces very small roaming profiles (about 500kb somehow).
