We have a number of classrooms where the set up of the teachers desk is such that there are trailling cables from the whiteboard to the desk. We have used the thin cable protectors in the past but now they want something more rugged and wider (if that makes sense).

What do you guys use?

For a semi-permanent installation so flexible conduit terminated into a box either end.

Wouldnt the conduit make a trip hazard?

Can you trunk from the box on the wall for the whiteboard round to the side of the desk that is next to the wall? if you are setup in such a manner, what are your floors like could always go under the floor tiles.

Rubber floor conduit would be ok its that kind of speed bump looking stuff

I always use mini trunking on the wall. It makes the initial installation take longer but the results are worth it as it looks better and stops cables being ripped out when someone trips over them. Use the self-adhesive stuff to get it positioned properly, then secure it with screws (and suitable wall plugs) so it stays put.

Depends on your layout which I have no idea about.

Sorry - Originally the desks were next to the wall at 90 degrees from board. cables from the wall box went straight onto the desk - no problem. Now they have moved their desks away from the wall completely and faced them towards the students. Now we have trailling cables from the wall to the desk. In some rooms the students have to walk behind the teachers desk to get out of the room. This is where the trip hazard bit comes in. We have thin rubber floor conduit but this tends to move over time as people step on it. We have tried taping it down but then it just looks nasty.

Only sure fire way is down under the floor then back out in a floor box OR if the floor is solid then I'd look at a channel cut into the concrete then a plate over the top to protect wires . . . bit of work but stops all the trip hazard issues.

I protect our cables with a 30cm wooden ruler. Each time they ruin a lead by running over it with their chair or letting it get twisted, I promise that if they do it again I will smack their hands with a ruler!...

We did something like the cable mat with carpet and strong tape.

The fire office told us to rip it out as it was a fire hazzard.

The traffic line is over the top.

The rubber roll stuff is worse than useless.

We imported fixed 1M cable humps from the states when we did this 8 years ago.

In the new building If there is no floor box then the desk abbuts the wall. There are no trailing cables. If someone wants a new island then they will have to stump up for a power pole.

I have had a couple of teachers here ask to move their desks away from the wall and they were told quite firmly that if they did then they would have to leave the computer etc by the wall/IWB and the best solution we found was a filing cabinet.
