Morning all I am after some advice and suggestions on how to proceed with this idea. I have been told that we need to log all internet traffic to a specific user and log safeguarding reports each week. This has been easy with our Windows network as Smoothwall does all this for us at the click of a report. But our iPads all go through a PAC file, which is on port 800, and all I get back is the IP address of the iPad. Obviously they are not authenticating with the smoothwall box. But they are getting the highest level of filtering on the network. I have tried changing the port in the pac file to port 8080 which is our authentication port which it logs the user at that point, but it does not release the user so a second pupil can pick the ipad up and use it and all website requests would be logged as the first pupil. I am just wondering how other schools have got around requests like this? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Morning We have just purchased a batch of Lenovo V110-15isk (80TL) laptops, and we are wanting to put Windows 7 on these (they come with Windows 10 reinstalled). Lenovo's website have all the drivers on there website for Windows 7 but, I download the SATA drivers and run the Windows 7 start up disk, go to add the drivers and it will not recognize that there is a HDD present. I have set the Bios to legacy support for the hard drives (I have tried this both enabled and disabled) and still the same effect. Has anyone managed to install Windows 7 on any of these models or do you have any suggestions at all on how I can get these working.

Thank you. I will have a look at my test environment. I am sure that the one which I will be doing the live work on has never had a windows server 2003 on at all. but you never know what might have been lurking in the past!

We have a server 2008 on the network. Which this one will be replaceing. The original network was running on server 2008 and the ad made with 2008. then the r2 server added. How do we check if we are running DFS SYSVOL? I have set up a test environment and run into issues with group policy where if I created or edited one on the 2016 server it would not replicate through and give an error. But if you created it on the 2008r2 server it would work correctly. It was an internet explorer policy which was giving the error

Evening all Just wondering if any of you have added a server 2016 to a windows server 2008r2 domain? We are just about to purchase a new server, to replace one of our existing servers server 2008 (not r2), but plan on keeping the 2008r2 sever, but this unfortunately has an older version of exchange 2010 on (which is no longer used but is still in place and is going to be removed when we replace the server 2008r2 box). I am just wondering what peoples experiences are of this if any of you have already tried this.

I looked at this a few years back and the layout you described is the same as what we went for as we felt that it gave the teacher the ability to stand anywhere in the room and see all the screens of the pupils. We looked at 4 islands and facing inwards but felt that teachers could keep pupils on track better the way we installed.

Managed to get to the bottom of this! But waiting on a solution. For some reason the CCTV is taking up the full bandwidth of the upload. As soon as this was disconnected the speed immediately came back. We have a maintenance contract with this so it has been passed to them to resolve. Thank you for suggestions, it was like looking for a needle in a haystack

Thank you there is several points to look at here. I am putting a box on the internet connection to give me more information of what internal IP's are sending out traffic which in turn may be able to point me into a direction where I could find a solution.

need to check the contract for that. I just need to prove it and prove what devices it is that is causing it. as the no one can be in the building using the system except one person then it will drop out like this.

We are on a EoFTTC connection which should have a guaranteed 7Mb connection.

via speedtest.net i use this when access to the schools gmail accounts stop working. the download will show roughly normal but the upload will be none existent to unusable. Speaking with someone last night and they say it could be the router not being powerful enough as it is a low end router supplied by our provider.

It is the only one of my schools with this provider. I have spoken with other schools with the same provider as myself and they don't have issues.

I'm having an intermittent issue with internet speed. The download will remain steady between 35 and 42mb all day and every day. But my upload is all over the place. This morning we were getting between 0.01mb and 8mb. We are in a small school and walked the building when upload speed drops and there is virtually nothing in use. What has been in use I have checked over to see for any malware virus etc and all are clean. There is no bit torrent type software anywhere on the network. I have checked for scheduled tasks and there is nothing running which would affect upload. I have also reset the wireless key incase this had been compromised. But upload is still getting killed. I have also check to see if anything had been looped back on itself and nothing has. I have spoken with our internet provider and they say that we are maxing out our bandwidth but can't tell us what with. I have got hold of a device which will log all Internet traffic and what bandwidth it is using but I can't get my hands on this until next week. Have any of you got any suggestions as this is driving me up the wall

I had issues with solus 3 not pushing out to certain machines. I disabled the Windows firewall and started working normally. Put an exception in and all good

I had to do that this lunch time. SIMS was taking up the majority of the resources on the server. Rebooted and the server has been fine all afternoon.

We never had issues with printers with the GPO on 8.1. But the strangest one we have is with proxy servers, on some 8.1 machines using internet explorer it will not recognise the proxy server even though it is installed on the machine. But if you use chrome it will work correctly how it should. but ie will not work. Never found a solution or cause except a reimage. then will go again in 3 or 4 weeks.

put 10 on a test machines and the issues we have with 8.1 have transferred over. But our login times are quicker on 10 over 8.1

I wouldn't even think of it. Got a site on mix windows 7 pro and windows 8.1. Only issues I have are always with the 8.1 machines.

Ruckus throughout. Reduced the number of AP's but increased coverage and capacity.
