Best Backup solution for staff and student files?

We're looking at backup options here at school and wondered if a remote, cloud based backup would be a reasonable option for over 600Gb of data? If so- does anyone have any recommended places we can do this? Any experience using this kind of service?

Cloud backup is still relatively expensive compared to onsite solutions, from what I have found. Do you have anything onsite at the moment?

Have a look at Microsoft DPM 2012.

 

We run it on a Dell R610 with an iSCSI target (12TB Netgear ReadyNas Pro6), which is then replicated to an identical box on the other side of the campus.

 

We do 15 minute snapshots (which only backs up the changes) all the staff and student data, bare metal recoveries and system state backups of all of our servers.

 

Virtually free under a Microsoft Agreement.

About the cheapest is Amazon's Glacier service at around 2p per GB per month - £12 a month isn't bad, although there will be data transfer fees on top of that, too. That's not an instant-access servie, either. Rackspace were about 7p per GB per month, I think.

I work at a medium sized primary and I just back up our 2 servers each evening to a couple of WD MyBook external drives. Then each day I swap them with 2 others which are stored in a separate buliding. The main server has 2 x 3TB external drives and our smaller server has 2 x 1TB external drives. This has worked here for a couple of years and at my previous school for about 5 years. If they start to get full Windows backup deletes the oldest files and makes more space.
